Was FF9 really that good? That's like the 3rd most talked about one on here.

Yes, It was even though its my personal least favorite of the PS era. As a game its better than 8 and 7 ever were. The party was interesting, story was good, had a likeable lead who wasn't some moody jerk off. It hearkened back to the classical fantasy roots of the series made a 4 person party instead of 3 and had a pretty good villain (until the last boss which was like :what:)

I like 8 because it looked great, I love the ost and art style and it was one of the first times in a A list game where a love story was a corner stone of the plot. And 7 is 7 :manny:

They could make... *gasp* a new IP RPG that people actually would give a fukk about???

The actual creator of the FF series left the company a long time ago.
You'd have to try blue dragon or Lost Odyssey for the X360. And since you brought it up

Lost Odyssey 2 will land on Xbox One by 2016 :blessed: I'll see if I can find the article that leaked it was in the making...

Ok, I found this. Doesn't go into the detail of the link I was looking for. But it should give you an idea of what is what...
http://www.techtimes.com/articles/14499/20140901/hironobu-sakaguchi-final-fantasy-square-enix.htm

For the record, Microsoft holds the rights to those two titles (Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey) so any sequel would be Xbox exclusive. To fill a void, its a no brainer. Sony will be getting there share of exclusives in that genre. Can't wait...
The FF creator must feel like an idiot selling out to make games for the white man that Flopped. c00nanese

Ya'll are still not understanding what I'm trying to say here.

The "print money" argument is stupid as fukk. Square RPGs will print money regardless. Kingdom Hearts only has 2 main title releases and it's arguably more anticipated than FF15. My thing is, Final Fantasy is a legendary series. Right now, they're just butchering it. The more they do it, the less people will remember the classic FFI-FFX and remember the X-2-current bullshyt. Also, they keep trying to rehash old trademarks of the game, when the designers, directors, producers are almost across the board different from SquareSoft era. They haven't even attempted to make a fresh new IP with fresh mechanics and fresh ideas. We get the same monsters, summons, CGI movies, and overall style from a cast of game designers who haven't tried making their own shyt. KH is the obvious exception, but it's truly a game for preteens and young teens.

For example, magazines like Famitsu in Japan, pretty much give ANY FF a great score, and that's like the Source equivalent for HipHop in the 90s. Sqaure is living off the FF name and not making QUALITY games. FF was an almost guaranteed classic back in the days, now its miss, miss, miss, hit, miss etc. But Square doesn't care because people will still suck its dikk because its part of their legendary series, FF. fukk THAT. A game needs to be quality, not live off it's past.

SO if Square retires it, maybe they can go back to being an elite company by trying to create the best possible game instead of being smug as fukk knowing that they'll still have pull in the industry by releasing subpar FFs. Seriously Square doesn't care anymore as evidenced by all the FF7 trolling. They need to go back to humble beginnings, and the classics will start dropping again.

All they have to do is stop making b1tchass beta characters and have an engrossing story...that's it.

This is literally all they have to do to be considered the GOAT again. The only reason why Cloud and Squall worked is because for Squall, he's a 17-year-old soldier who went through abandonment issues and Cloud was running on false memories. And when Cloud DID learn the truth, that fukked him up.

I personally think we need more main FF characters who were like Zidane or Tidus. Zidane's the 16-year-old thief who's a playboy, and Tidus is a 17-year-old sports superstar with father issues. Regardless of the shyt they go through, they more or less stay cheery. The whole angsty character trope isn't something you want to overdo. Lightning was a bytch for no reason, Hope was a Sasuke Uchiha waiting to happen, and everyone's basically a head case except for Sazh.

I think before anything else, they need to work on a rock-solid story. Make it where you're actually submerged in the world you're playing. Develop characters where you can actually connect with, give them backstories that make you want to root for them. Add life to the scenery, make the dialogue more convincing. FFXIII was their attempt of making another FFVII but different and failed. They're completely capable of making a better game than FF7, they just have to really be creative and not pump out a title just because it's time to.

Breh, they havent "ruined" anything. The latest in the numbered series isn't just one of their most profitable games, its also one of the best games they have put out PERIOD. You the type of cat to jump ship when your favorite team has a bad season. Not one FF is a BAD GAME, its just bad by comparison to itself. XII was still a quality ass game with great production values and was decently fun to play, it just wasn't up to par. STILL it was better than just about everything else on the market.

And talking about trademarks.? :mjlol: Bro that's what makes Final Fantasy have its charm. Some of you new clowns want some ole Devil May Cry reboot with some emo, brooding clown with no charisma. Let Square cook. Fools are up here ready to abandon ship over ONE game. Remember you judge Final Fantasy by the MAIN INCARNATIONS FIRST. And if we go off that 13 is the ONLY game in the main series that has missed a step (sans the 14 first launch).

1-10 are all classics basically. 11 is still played and was a great mmo for its time. 12 is just short of classic. 13 kinda sucks and the new 14 is AMAZING. So in almost 30 years of games you are pissing and moaning over ONE GAME. ONE. fukkING. GAME.

You sound dumb as fukk, my G. :russ: Dude talking about they butchering the series while the newest game in the series is lauded as one of the best in the genre with one of the best dev teams and support in the industry. Seriously, unless you played all these shyts stop talking and regurgitating some shyt you heard some 19 year old fanboy say because he "don't wanna play as a girl".

nikka I been a Texans/Rockets fan since I was in the womb, miss with that dumb sports analogy.

What in the fukk are you even saying dude. They haven't dropped a classic since 01. Period. After dropping 5 straight CLASSICS, they dropped X-2, which was shyt. XI which was underwhelming at the time because it wasn't even a standard JRPG, XII which was probably the most forgettable in the series, XIII which at best was dull as fukk, then TWO fukkING sequels which didn't even live up to the standards of the first game of the trilogy. Then they fukking dropped the original FF14 which is known as their worst mishap in their fukking history. I count fukking SEVEN. where the fukk you getting one from. Why the hell SHOULDN'T we count the sequels? That's a dumb cop out. TBH their best game since '01 IS a spinoff/sequel in Crisis Core. But even Crisis Core wasn't classic status. When a company makes classic their standard, you hold them to it.

Yeah they did a good job with a Realm Reborn only after they got shytted on to oblivion. Seriously if the industry had its back on that game they wouldn't have cared and left that shyt the way that was, further proving my point. That's the Square you riding for. I've played every FF since 6 so miss me with that bullshyt argument about I probably haven't played them. I wouldn't have went on this rant if I hadn't.

Breh, 12 was good as fukk and prolly one of the best in the series as far as game-play and world buliding. Their only mistake was making Vaan the "main" party member and not Balthier. Was it a bad game...nope. And again ya'll killing me with these spin-offs, of course the spin off isn't going to be good as the originals. Its damn near supplemental reading...which is why in the STANDARD NUMBERED series 13 is the only one that's shyt. You don't count them because they have different dev cycles and teams. We are talking about the A-Class, top of the line, block buster Final Fantasy.

And :what: @ 11 not good because it WASN'T a JRPG? That's the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. It wasn't SUPPOSED TO BE A JRPG its an MMO, clown. A good one at that that still to this day has a soli player base 15 years later. :russ: You don't even know what you saying :dead:

And 14 WAS shyt...but its not today. And I respect Square more for saying "yo, we put out a really shytty game and you know what if you had a copy of it, you will get the new one free and for a reduced sub". And playing every FF since 6 gives you no credence to your argument, in fact it lets me know that your scope of Square as a company is even more limited. Again in terms of the entire main series they only have two missteps, one they didn't learn from and one they did.

breh, you cool with me, but you lost me with defending Square enix post FFX. The games are trash. 12 was passable, but boring and tedious. Nothing stood out. I was waiting for the part where it gets great. Never happened. When compared to the actual good FF games, its garbage.

13 was certified trash. Arguably the biggest let down in the history of gaming. 14 may be aight but thats only for folks who like MMO's. Thats cool and all, but the main series is trash. How many times do we gotta get fooled by expensive graphics before we stop giving these bums our money?

Breh, it's been 14 years and we haven't gotten a classic JRPG Final Fantasy. There's no way around this. That's what I and most fans been waiting for since we were preteens blown away by how great 6-10 were. Realm Reborn may be great, but that's not why we fell in love with FF in the first place. MMOs are not for everyone, and again, not what we expected from a trademark Blockbuster FF. I was in the fukking 5th grade when FFX came out, and since then I've replayed 6-10 countless times, and now I've graduated, have a job, some of us have families, and we still haven't gotten an RPG equivalent to something as great as I-X. That's all there is to it.

Square dropped 10 classic FF JRPGs in 14 years, and in the next 14, zero. Regardless of the amount of time a game takes in these times, it's still ZERO. Think about that.

It's been over brehs. They're just destroying it's legacy. Nothing they make will ever capture players' hearts like FFI-FFX did. FFXII while good, didn't leave an impression like the older FFs, and FFXIII was a complete joke. Then they went and ruined it even more by giving it sequels.

Square should retire the name and make a completely new IP and rebuild it's fandom and make a new legacy with their new younger staff and ideas. They're literally just milking off what the older staff did and just using the legendary name for money. It's not the same anymore, and instead of trying to limit themselves by creating games with the old FF trademarks, they should just do what comes to them and perfect the type of games they're good at.

I love Persona as much as the next guy, but Final fukking Fantasy, what pretty much introduced and made us all fall in love with the JRPG genre, should never have be runner-up to it. And at this point it is.
i otherwise would not care much about square continuing or retiring it, but now that i have seen this new arena brawling game, i am intrigued...

The Boom Bap Era
The futuristic sci-fi scene in recent FF games needs to :camby: I'm all for bringing it back to medieval theme back. That being said i'm gonna play through FF9 again...It's the most under appreciated of the series.

If you are missing classic FF, try Bravely Default. Other than that be thankful Persona 5 is coming out. Square dropped the ball a generation ago and still haven't got "IT" back. It's sad as hell when all they need to do is remake FF7 but oh well. fukk it. If they die they die.
Man Bravely Default was good until chapter 5 :dayum:
