Wat does one have to do with the other, unless you saying the Americans got passed over a game dev job and now can't find a job?
It has to do with everything bruh.

i work with these dudes everyday.

A non citizen coming over here making more money than a home grown american aint right.

there probably 3 black dudes in my whole floor in I.T. These indians scam the system, lie on resumes, get they cousins, aunts and uncles all hired. Then come in and cant do the job.

the system is jacked up.

How do we as black folk get more careers in the gaming industry?
TBH, as someone who has been around people who programmed games, at least while I was in school, the common theme was that they did it as a hobby since they were kids.

I don't think its something most people are going to go into just by picking a major. A lot of times, these are the type of people who were at home programming their own games in their free time for fun.

So, introducing young kids to programming at a young age and maybe doing it through game development is the best place to start.

Personally I can program but the idea of programming a game doesn't interest me. Just not my jam. :yeshrug:. I've even had assignments where we had an option to program a game for a project and the other options were more practical programming assignments like building an alarm or something more everyday use and I would choose that or steer our group towards that. I think it takes a special interest in game development.

There's more opportunities in the industry other than developing tho

Illustrators, storyboard artists, designers, project management, social media/community management etc

Yeah I guess I was mainly focused on game development. Right now, I think there are plenty of black folks who can be applying to positions in the fields you mentioned. Shouldn't be any shortage there.

That's why I'm saying, I don't think it's promoted enough with our youth. Kids of all races play video games, there's no reason they shouldn't be aware of the various ways to find work in that industry... and they aren't just limited to being a developer, ya dig?

I can't speak on the gaming industry but working in the medical industry I can say this is not the whole truth. There are plenty of us who are educated but aren't given the opportunity because people above don't feel like we are worthy of these type of positions making this type of money or they rather outsource the position so they can save some money. Heck I have to sort through a bunch of trash resume right now to try to find a security analyst and I'm more concerned about if the person understands english well enough for me to be able to train them. I do agree that the education system is trash and does hinder the progress of black kids but that is only part of the much larger problem.
I guess what I was eluding to in my post is that the opportunities within gaming for black people is limited to being a content creator or influencer (Youtube or Twitch). I agree with you that HR can fukk people over, I'm just saying that kids who are passionate about games need to know that they can be a part of the gaming industry even if they aren't developing games.

The reality of the gaming industry is that door has been shut already.

Black people aren't running around with enough capital to make their own games.

We don't have the social capital to be put on my the people already in the industry.

We always gonna be chocolate chips on cookies (always a couple of us) at gaming companies

IDK. The exposure to tech and overall programming in regular public schools is so lacking itโ€™s not even funny. Kids in India learn about c++ in fukking 6th grade. Where is the equivalent here? And then in college itโ€™s trash. You got some swarmy smelly foreigner rambling on for two hours making you feel stupid because you arenโ€™t readily grasping this extremely new concept so you say fukk this.

Cosign all of this. None of these concepts are being promoted within schools we have access to, and low-key get clowned within our culture.
