2001 :aicmon:

That was one of the GOAT years.

:stopitslime: I guess cause you're a lil' younger (no dis)... but I remember the early part of the year being dead boring. Then around the summer, there was a lotta good singles out. Then the Jay/Nas shyt kicked off and that was crazy. Blueprint was dope of course, Jada's album was aiiiite, Stillmatic closed the year off on a high note.

But going back, there was a lot of disposable shyt poppin' that year. A lot. It wasn't TERRIBLE, but when thinking back on 2001 as an all-out classic year, the only thing that really sticks out is Jay vs Nas. Anything else is a bunch of stuff that doesn't immediately jump out at you as memorable. The music was decent (at least the second half of the year) and a great battle. That about it.

1998.

The scourge that was that keyboard beat phase all became fully realized in 1998. When even the fukking Cocoa Bz put out a keyboard album it's a sad state of affairs.

I hated the cocoa brovas album.

fukk......when I saw the first TV spot for "BCCs own Smif n Wessun are now....The Cocoa Brovas" n it showed the scenes from Won on Won with those cats sittin in bubble baths. ugh...the name was stupid n the video looked gay as hell. Won on Won and Spanish Harlem are great tracks tho.

And then, not to mention most of '93's great albums came out all the way at the end of the year, so they rolled over into early-'94.

So yeah... '94 >>>>> '93 with no debate.

But even on its own, '94 was an all around stronger year. Albums, singles, new artists, etc... it only adds to it that most of '93's best albums were released so late in the year, they carry over. That's only an added thing that makes the year that much better. Even without that, '94 was a big year.

To '93's credit, The Chronic came out in the last 2 weeks of '92, so that has its own mark left in '93. Matter fact, it was the most-loved, played, bought album of that year all the way til damn near the end. Because '93 had a lot of good singles and a nice batch of albums, but it didn't get GREAT until like the last three months. It was OK up until the fall, THEN all the great stuff came out. It still counts as '93, sure... but there was a whole 9 months of that year that was just... good. Whereas '94? From top to bottom, consistently high quality shyt coming out.
