I completely agree, I remember on SOHH, I said this got blasted.

sohh is one of the main factors in why i say that year is overrated. they overhyped ALOT of albums themselves.

2001 was the year that i joined sohh, btw.

2001 had its share of memorable singles, but outside of that and the Jay/Nas shyt, a very dry year of music. Originality was at an all-time low, albums were formulaic, 'underground' artists were coasting off their reputation, mainstream artists were playing follow the leader... just blah. The bright spots were bright, but mostly because they stood out from all the weak shyt.

2001 was also the year where viacom took over and started their monopoly on the music video game. the quality of rap singles IMMEDIATELY went down the drain. nobody ever talks about this.

I can never see how people do this. No knock but I stay forgetting what year shyt came out.

I enjoy that "of the year" shyt within the actual year but by a certain point only the music matters, not what else was out in that year

i dont see how its so hard. i mean, i can understand if you get years mixed up nowadays since we've been stuck on the same mediocre chit & overhyped artists for the past 6 years now.

but before the game got stuck in neutral, every year pretty much had its own identity, kinda like grade school. so it shouldnt be hard to differentiate the years, especially if you grew up around the culture. its like the soundtrack to your life.
