After Pulp Fiction is when he became typecast as "Loud angry black man".

Check out films like:

The Red Violin
Assault at Westpoint
Jungle Fever
One Eight Seven

Sammuel L Jackson is a legit actor, he just rarely does quality films to show of his acting chops these days.

If you think Robert Denrio doesn't have range and you can't think of or find any evidence to the contrary then you're just fukking lazy.

Although his "angry black man" roles vastly outweigh his more nuanced performances, I get where you're coming from. A lot of the guys I named showed some range early in their careers, maybe some flashes here and there, then became one trick ponies as their career went on.

Good post, though. :salute:

Hes playig completely different characters, people and losing himself in the roles. Hes the exact opposite of what this thread is supposed to be about and I legit hate Daniel Day Lewis.

This thread cant be for real though, some great actors being disrespected. Nicolas Cage, James Franco , Russell Crowe, Colin Farrel etc should be headlining this thread as they have tried and failed to show more acting chops.

These actors take on certain roles to get paid. The films they do that show off their range tend to be smaller side projects. If you look earlier in their career you'll see way more diversity in the roles they play and how they play them.

By the standard guys in this thread are setting though the ONLY actor that has any range is Gary Oldman.

Sometimes it's not that an actor isn't showing any range so much as it is the actor is SO famous you can't see beyond their fame to get a good look at the work they're doing.

It's not that those guys don't have range, because they do. But after they open a lot of eyes with a certain type of performance, then roles are written with them playing that type of character in mind. They can basically name their price after that. If you really want to see a lot of actors' range, see the stuff before they got real famous. Ryan Gosling is a good example of that in the modern era. After Drive, he gets casted as the tough guy with a sensitive side. Bruce Willis was a good example before Die Hard. He was doing comedies.

Nonetheless, if you want to talk about actors with limited range...

Paul Walker
The Rock
Vin Diesel
Channing Tatum
The rest of the cast of Fast and Furious 6
and Bradley Cooper... might have range, just don't see him as a good actor.

Even if you disagree with me, the guys I named aren't exactly character actors. They know their strengths, and they lean towards them heavily( and have for some time, now).

Guys like DiCaprio, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Sean Penn, even James Franco show more range (currently) than the guys I listed.

****THAT DOESN'T NECESSARILY MAKE THEM BETTER ACTORS, THOUGH****
