@Ziggiy @Rapmastermind :ohhh:

Only problem is Denzel would taken the Paul role (JDW the son) and we wouldnt have got Delroy as Paul.

I think it would have been dope if Denzel took the Eddie role
making it such a shock that he died early

Idk know if Denzel does it without being Paul tho.

Sam Jackson is probably Melvin right?

Although thats a KILLER lineup what we got was good enough for me.

Dellroy DESERVED this role and all the accolades that come with it

Need to run it back, I was a little distracted last night, which probably made it seem shorter, and I wasn't paying attention always, but I liked a lot about it.

Hit way too many cliches, for me, I get that Spike was kinda doing a part genre pic

Some budget issues, were minor, not even the aging, but the helicopter shootout

The main problem was that I liked watching the characters just talk about their lives, way more than shady French villains, and VC bandits, and long lost wives. I would have liked to just have them spend that weekend in Hanoi, and a smaller, quieter movie.

It was a great film. Spike Lee deserves consideration for the Oscar for Best Direction. Delroy deserves an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Nice for them to reconnect since Crooklyn.

Spike Lee went Tarantino with the killing of Paul even though he’d never admit that.

Decent flick. :ehh:

Lindo is the obvious standout, he pulls off the guilt-ridden/PTSD/emotionally broken role to perfection.
Clarke Peters makes anything he's in worth watching.
The Morehouse advertising is hilarious. FOH.
Ed Moses, however, was very much the man.
Norm Lewis is underutilized here. I know I can't expect a Javert performance in a Spike Lee flick but...still.
BLM? Really? :hmm:
Spike Lee still can't edit nor make transitions to save his life.
I respect the effort made to not make this one-sided, and show the Vietnamese people as people in their own right.
Damn, Otis, just put the gold on Craigslist!

Best lines in the entire film:

Ain't no thing...I forgive you.
Powerful words. A lot of us could stand to learn and apply that where needed.

+

...won't let nobody use our rage against us. We control our rage. Now, what y'all trying to do right now ain't changing shyt.

My grandfather fought and was shot in WW2. Then came home and was denied basic rights. Also dealt with severe PTSD until his death. This shyt was perfect in touching on the brothers who fought for this country back when we were still treated like peasants. I don't give a damn about the critics of "dragging" or "the score" This movie is powerful and will reach who it needs to.

My great grandfather was recruited to fight in WW 2 while Kenya was still a British colony. It’s maddening that they were forced to fight for rights that they didn’t enjoy in their homeland.

The blessing in disguise is that when these soldiers returned home, they used skills and exposure they got through the war to set off the movement for Independence in Africa and Civil Rights struggle here in the U.S.

Chappelle put it best, “It’s hard to go back to sitting in the back of the bus, when you have been in the South of France getting your dikk sucked by white women for a Crunch Bar”.

This was a damn good movie just for Delroy's performance alone. This is a movie i will watch again in the future so i can catch the little parts i probably missed with it being long. I know some have complaints about a few things but to me this movie was pretty well done and i'm not going to criticize Spike at this point. Cause i don't expect him to be in his prime being where he is at in life when it comes go making classic films but this movie is about as good as i expected it to be.

Damn I wish I saw this in this movie theater. This joint was :banderas:
My only gripe would be that I would've liked for them to had used younger actors for the flashback scenes. Need a blu-ray would some good extras or just a director's commentary.

:salute: Delroy Lindo (Yes it was Award Worthy)

Honestly I loved it watched it 4th of July weekend, perfect film to see as Black Americans contributions to the American Military hasn't been given it's proper credit in history. I don't think you all understand how deprived of Epic Black War Stories we were robbed of because of White Supremacy in Hollywood. Anyways, I thought the film was straight. I understand they re-wrote the script to give it a more Black-Centric feel and it worked. Loved the documentary style edits of footage from the past. Again Spike is unapologetically black when he makes his films so again I loved how it focused on these characters returning to Nam. Loved the club scene so much. Just seeing elderly Black Vets chopping it up after surviving Nam was dope. Chadwick was straight though in a limited role. Obviously they didn't have the budget for de-aging (Very expensive effects) but they didn't look that much younger so maybe should of went with younger actors.

The Nam scene were straight but I understand the budget constraints so they didn't focus to much on the past. Loved the scene when they found out about MLK's death and the Vietnam Radio Woman talking to the Black Soldiers about our White Supremacist Government. Delroy PTSD continued to get worst and worst as the movie went on that it really drove the story home. As for the plot it was cool but my only beef was once they got there it seemed to move very quickly as far as their mission. The Son and the whole French Girl Bomb Squad was a little too convenient but it lead to a very intense scene later on. I just like how Spike keep you guessing and even when they laid out the plan, I felt like it was a bad idea. I just love Black Solider stories because we have so many that are untold and not highlighted in American History. But overall I thought the cast did a great job and you felt the weight of their experiences in Vietnam. My favorite Professional Leon (Lets not forget Ronin too) made an appearance, lol. But Thanks Again Spike. Sparked up that joint and it was fire.
