Yea but Tarantino claimed this would show what slavery was really like. Not saying people should trust him, but if he claims to "show what slavery was really like", then he should. Instead he used slavery as a backdrop for showcasing his black stereotypes and fetishes. The whole thing is pretty sick. Not sure why you are directing your anger at people who are upset with dude for not living up to his word

where did he ever say this? :dwillhuh:

i must have missed it :manny:

He said it right in the article and has said it several times

I've always wanted to explore slavery ... to give black American males a hero ... and revenge. ... I am responsible for people talking about slavery in America in a way they have not in 30 years.

What did he explore? How was Django, essentially Dr. Schultz puppet, a hero? How did he want us to talk about slavery? Through the lens of blaxploitation?

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
I wasn't a slave, my parent's/grand parents wasn't slaves and I don't know no slaves so I don't give a fukk.

:manny:

It's a fukking movie, nikkas ain't have to watch it. Focus on black on black violence in chicago or camden or any other urban area in this country instead of speaking about a fictional fukking movie...

nikkas going in on Tanrantino but last time I checked... Jamie Foxxx, Kerry Washington, Samuel L Jackson were all in it.

If I want to learn about slavery, I will read a fukking book or watch a documentary.

You don't want to talk about it stay out of the thread

But don't falsely accuse nikkas of telling you how you should our shouldn't feel about this, and then turn around and tell nikkas they shouldn't feel some way about it. My ancestors weren't slaves either, but that doesn't mean I can't feel some way about some dude capitalizing off blaxploitation and forced racial controversy

You are not in charge of all black conversation and emotion... Get over yourself :ld:

that jesse williams article was brave. considering he works in hollywood and tarantino is a powerful dude, he effectively giving up possible work. still, it was paul robesonesque, brave. we dont see that these days. samuel jackson, some of the roles he plays, he has to ask questions of himself. when white people get too comortable with a cool, dangerous black sterotype, i always say hold up. just like chappelle. dont let these caccs get too comfortable.

negroes getting upset over django and its portrayal of slavery, but what are yall really doing to heal the community from the effects of slavery?
It's clear at this point that you will say anything to defend QT and his movie. This is a discussion where people are expressing their opinions of the movie, nobody has to qualify themselves to you. Save the smokescreens and deflection tactics.

All of the so called "wins" for black people that you've attributed to Django have been refuted. There are no wins for black people in Django. You're only seeing what you want to see in the movie instead of seeing the movie for what it really is. Obviously you didn't read the Jesse Williams blog entry(or a lot of the posts in this thread). Nobody here is angry at the movie, we're just calling it what it is. If I take issue with anything, it's with people like you trying to make the movie something that it's not.

Again, why is everyone focusing on the director? Nobody is focusing on the main actors who obviously co-signed it. nikkas need to fall back.

Instead of trying to strip us of our seriousness, why aren't you bringing this phony knuckle raking towards the director who claimed responsibility for talking about slavery? Since when is that entertainment and not serious?

Are you an ass?

If all you see is the body count or the actors who took millions of dollars as cosigns you mite be too simple to get what we are talking about

That you don't get why people are taking issue with Tarantino for a movie he wrote and directed speaks to that
