The problem isn't just about making your own movies... there are plenty of black directors out there coming up without the help of hollywood studios.

The bigger problem is the black audience lack of support for most of these movies.. That's why we're constantly getting the black christian going Tyler Perry type bullshyt constantly pushed out there.. over movies like The Great Debaters, Night Catches Us, Eve's Bayou, etc... because that's what black people go out and support..

that's not true, those movies are not marketed nowhere near the level of Tyler Perry, and never will be. Films like that never are.

But where's the black science fiction films, where's the black actions movies, where's the black horror, where's the black mind fukk movies where nobody can even explain the shyt after it's over.

There's no diversity with the films black people make, how many Friday's Ice Cube gotta make I mean the first one was good enough for me.

Red Tails is a prime example of a flick that had decent marketing and promotion and was supposed to be a huge step toward big budget films with a black cast no one saw it.. Think Like A Man came out and was number 1 for how many weeks? not only that but it made over 2x's what Red Tails brought in.

And you can argue the quality of Red Tails, but there's no fukking way you can seriously try to convince me that a movie like Think Like A Man is that much better...

McQueen is an excellent director. He's probably the best, active Black filmmaker in the game right now, and he has a lot of cred with white audiences because his last two films weren't "Black" films (though they did involve Blackness in interesting ways,) plus he basically sparked Michael Fassbender's career. I trust him with the source material, and I hope he pulls it off.

Saw the movie today. I can honestly say the movie was GREAT. This might go down as Tarantino's best work. I think many people thought the story would be the typical white man saves the black guy, but Tarantino let the character take command in a way that maybe has never been done in Hollywood(in this type of situation). Christopher Waltz character I almost feel is a version of what Tarantino is doing himself by making this movie (putting himself on the line). Spike Lee, Cornell West and the other clowns need to sit down. Tarantino just showed how to send a message to the youth. Make it entertaining and put your message inside the play.
