I'm curious. Have any of the dissenters actually seen the movie?

I'm going to watch the bootleg just in case it is racist trash. That way I don't have to support it monetarily. But I am going to watch it BEFORE I make a judgment.

Honestly, I don't want to watch a black horror movie about slavery, I get that it's sad and horrific , but I want to see something that I can watch and feel proud, ain't nothing empowering about seeing a bunch of niccas take L's in the field.

That's the reason why I never liked the passion and for colored girls and the color purple, yeah it was accurate but that shyt is depressing as hell, I'm tired of seeing black folks all fukked up in movies, I'd rather see something like hidden colors or catcher freeman. I don't want to leave the movie theater all sad and shyt, I want to leave it feeling better with my first in the air. I don't care if its inaccurate or slapstict, I want to see a black man stick it to the system, catch a few bodies and win. That doesn't make me a c00n.

Hidden Colors is piff but niqqas even hating on that too. We can't win even with ourselves making the move

yall niqqas need to decide what yall want :snoop:

moral of the story is, get your money up, make your own movies.

If you gotta go get some white dollars to get your movies made, what do you expect.

It's 2013, nikkaz still wanna play the victim.

OH, QT did this, OH hollywood won't let us do this, OH they won't nominate non of the black actors

so fukking what, either nikkaz gonna get they money up make their own rules, or we never gonna get respect period.

The problem isn't just about making your own movies... there are plenty of black directors out there coming up without the help of hollywood studios.

The bigger problem is the black audience lack of support for most of these movies.. That's why we're constantly getting the black christian going Tyler Perry type bullshyt constantly pushed out there.. over movies like The Great Debaters, Night Catches Us, Eve's Bayou, etc... because that's what black people go out and support..

Your a clown. Smiley didn't con anyone. If anything he simply went back on a promise that he initially made. And honestly I don't blame him, as the TSU board of regents was involved in all typed of corrupt fukkery, including the misappropriation of funds. So while its unfortunate that Smiley didn't fulfill his initial obligations, to claim he "conned" TSU is extremely disingenuous.

And this is coming from someone who considers Smiley a pompous ass.

I actually went to school down there, so can that self-righteous crap you're talking and sell it to someone else.

What was going on down there was still going on WAAAYYYY before Tavis even got involved.

Of course being a Black American, I grew on Spike Lee films. I saw "School Daze and Do the Right Thing" at a young age. But the 1st Spike movie I saw on the Big Screen was "Malcolm X". I was 12 years old going to school in Washington, D.C. at the time. My History teacher set up a field trip for the class to see the film. We had to get permission slips to see it cause of course it was "R". They don't teach much about Malcolm X in History but she said it was an important film. Of course my parents said yes.

It was a life changing experience for a 12 year old to see that movie. It opened my eyes so much to race relations in America. The only other times I felt that same feeling was my Mother forcing us to watch "Roots" as a kid. "Mississippi Burning" I also saw at a young age but the movie scared me about the evils of White America back then.

When your young, your just young, you aren't thinking through a racial lens. I always knew I was Black but it's not until you experience racism that you understand your different. The film is a Masterpiece and Denzel and Spike were both Robbed at the Oscars cause the Oscars never would want to honor a film that again shows Black History in a positive light. That trademark Spike Camera shot at the end was epic where it's like Denzel was walking but he wasn't. Overall Spike will always have my respect for that experience. It was sad when I grew up and researched the making of the film to find out Famous Black Stars had to donate money to keep the film getting scrapped cause the Studio wouldn't fund the project all the way through:
