I mean... now y'all got me thinking... Top 10 black superheroes? :patrice:

Since forever the top 2 (imo) were T'Challa and John Stewart... but at this point in this modern society, Miles may be #2 depending on your criteria.

If we talkin money (as a lead), resume-wise:
  • T'Challa has the #6 highest grossing American movie of all time (#15 globally).
  • Miles has the #3 highest selling PlayStation game of all time.
  • T'Challa is a strong seller of merch, toys, and annual Halloween costumes per reports and insiders
  • Miles has had back-to-back highly successful box office animated films, including Sony Picture's most profitable animated film ever
  • T'Challa is a household name with global star athletes wearing his mask before games/matches/competitions
  • Both have appeared in numerous animated kid shows and shorts; BP had his own 26 ep animated season.
^^What these two are doing is literally better than what 95% of all superheroes period could ever do, no qualifiers needed.

1. BP
2. Miles
3. Stewart
4-10.* hodgepodge of underutilized/misused/neglected/sabotaged brehs and brehettes

what you said about hodgepodge of underutilized/misused/neglected/sabotaged brehs and brehettes that apply to John Stewart as well as unless someone in power at warner bros/DC Comics decide to give him a big push he going to stay in the back of the bus in favor of Hal Jordan :mjpls: .

To keep it a buck, Falcon might be top 5 right now. The Jimmy Butler of black superheroes :pachaha:

Falcon
TV series, check. Upcoming solo movie, check. Mainstay in modern kids cartoons, check. All over kid’s snacks and clothes in supermarkets, check. He’s never gonna get voted an all-star starter except as an injury replacement but which of the rest is putting up a consistent 20/5/5?

Stewart
Back when Stewart was king of the hill, not only was he on the highest rated/critically acclaimed superhero show arguably ever (JL/JLU), he was delivering as co-MVP next to Batman and Superman. Multiple episodes, storyarcs, and love interests dedicated to him. Unfortunately he’s Kawhi living off a ‘19 Raptors run for going on 20 years.

Storm
She's a system player who got drafted by the Showtime Lakers. Claim to fame is her association to the most popular team in the 80s-90s and most popular black male superhero thru the mid-00s/early’10s, but left to her own devices... solo movie/game/TV show/cartoon? Nada. Can't even keep a solo comic series going.. Monica Rambeau with a better agent.

Blade and Spawn fall under that Stewart category of a hot (maybe scorching) run once upon a time… and nothing (but turmoil) since.

Dr Voodoo and Blue Marvel could leap frog a lot of these folks if given the right push. Both are conceptually far more dynamic but have zero backing.

See this is why we need parameters because everyone is arguing different things. Is this list based on personal favorites, cultural impact, marketability/financial success, comic based feats and arcs, recency bias?

I mean... you have Luke Cage and War Machine as more beloved than John Stewart... yet if people were polled that a movie could be made for any of those 3, we all know which guy they're picking...

No doubt. Prior to, I said my top 2 (BP and Miles) are based on money/draw. Which is why my 3 (4)-10 was a hodgepodge that i said would be hard to scale.

Sam, Stewart, and Storm weren't provided as my ranking tier but as my observations on their respective situations.

Luke Cage is DEFINITELY more beloved than john stewart. Historically and currently…he had a well received show for two seasons and contributed to others…and powerman was already a factor prior since the 70s and an avenger in the late 00s. Stewart was popular thru the DCAU, but i don’t think he’s on that level. War machine, thats arguable but he was a pretty major factor during the most successful movie run in history…that matters. And he’s on their active show today.

All of the above? I think “most beloved currently” captures all of that
It's obviously not "all of the above" because quite a few of those criteria contradict. Something being a personal favorite doesn't make it a financial success. A financial success doesn't necessarily equate to a cultural impact. Comic based lore and feats does not automatically translate to the onscreen success and so on.

I completely disagree with all of this and find it highly subjective. Rather, it's getting into arguing comic book neckbeard logic... which is outside the scope to what i'm talking about.

Exactly. You ask the comic book community (majority neckbeards, mind you) who is more beloved, Miles Morales or Cyclops... Cyclops is winning that. But who is the bigger cash cow?... well that's a different question and a different measurement scale.

But yea, i said my piece on this topic :salute:
