I completely disagree with all of this and find it highly subjective. Rather, it's getting into arguing comic book neckbeard logic... which is outside the scope to what i'm talking about.

Exactly. You ask the comic book community (majority neckbeards, mind you) who is more beloved, Miles Morales or Cyclops... Cyclops is winning that. But who is the bigger cash cow?... well that's a different question and a different measurement scale.

But yea, i said my piece on this topic :salute:
It's eerie you brought up Cyclops because I almost put him in that post as a prime example of a storied character with a big impact in comics that was absolutely garbage and forgettable onscreen. Even his biggest stans admit his onscreen was trash, so it's definitely not a 1:1.

It's obviously not "all of the above" because quite a few of those criteria contradict. Something being a personal favorite doesn't make it a financial success. A financial success doesn't necessarily equate to a cultural impact. Comic based lore and feats does not automatically translate to the onscreen success and so on.
I hear you both, and yes, at this point we're gonna veer in to neckbeard youtube comment terttitory lol. But, to be clear I tried to include all those factors, and park 'my favorite' to some level. Like...i really don't give a shyt about spawn as much as I respect the character.
  1. Black Panther - all attributes; drew money on screen, has solid comic success and critical acclaim, has comic and black cultural impact, loved by adults, liked by kids
  2. Miles Morales - same as above, loved by kids, liked by adults
  3. Storm - major comic and black cultural impact, was a star on one of the most successful animated and at that time, comic movies ever, is a beloved charactor by black women, and is general 'very popular'
  4. Luke Cage - got a prestige tv series we all liked, has fans going back to the 70s, has solid black and comic cultural impact, etc
  5. Blade
  6. Spawn
  7. War Machine
  8. Jon Stewart - beloved by comic fans, has a major impact on the critically acclaimed DCEU, does not have a silver or small screen portrayal yet, but people desire more of the character
  9. Bishop - same as Green Lantern, and arguably stole the show in Xmen DOFP, but has a more isolated reach
  10. Falcon
  11. Cyborg
  12. Black lightning
I could continue but i'm saying that i tried to capture all of the factors discussed.

While watching the OG with my little one again, I noticed that when Miles does the initial attempted building jump after getting his powers and hits the sign, when he falls and kicks the numbers off, the ones that fall down on either side of him (with him right in the middle) are 4 and 2. Love the layers in this series

On the subject of black superheroes, what do you guys think of Vixen in DC ? I always thought that rather than putting Cyborg as a founding member of the Justice League in their reboot, DC should have pushed her. Her powers are dope and the movie potential is there imo.:jbhmm:

Her abilities would be difficult to portray onscreen without it either looking like ass (accentuating it) or basically reducing it to martial arts and suspension of belief (minimize it). Basically you display CGI animals overlaying her to demonstrate the animal or you show nothing and she's lifting a car and the audience is going to infer based on some writing mechanism.

Yes they did but that's animation, pulling off a similar effect in live action without it looking ridiculous is the challenge. Look at someone as important as Reed and there's yet to be a single adaptation that doesn't look like shyt.

Some powers just don't translate well.

Surpassed GotG 3 domestically :ohhh:

Also taken from a YT comment:

The reasons the ending is a masterpiece is because he said “I’m home” but this version of his home is everything that his friends and Miguel wanted, his father dead and no powers. It’s so good man.

:ohhh:

Just saw it:pacspit:Miguel. I never liked 2099 anyways. Mf was angry for no reason most of the time. and I see how they channeled the comiccacs reason to Ultimate Miles "breaking the canon". Blaming Pete's death on Miles. Getting piss about Miles having parents and speaking Spanish. Cacs tried their damnest to cancel Miles before he even got started.
