Did the midnight show because I'm a tremendous Bond fan with fairly unpopular opinions, but I stand by them. Just to get it out of the way, I felt Timothy Dalton's Bond is a far better representation than Brosnan, Moore, Connery, Lazenby, but on equal footing with Craig.
For me, it was the best Craig Bond, though Skyfall and Casino Royale are tied for second. Unlike the other Bond films, there is a bit more of a continuity and repercussions for his actions right from Casino Royale. Brosnan and Moore always got the reset button for their films, and Connery's Bond films had an arc for S.P.E.C.T.R.E, but the man himself,
Bond, never dealt with any casualties of the game except for Tracy's death in OHMSS. Craig's Bond has experienced tremendous psychological and physical damage which we've not really seen for action oriented films. I thought the opening sequence was fantastic as it was a fitting mission for Bond to be dressed as skeleton during the Mexican Day of the Dead as he's been the Grim Reaper for so many assassins over the years (it also paid homage to "Live And Let Die" as well).
Bad Bond Girl on deck, Tom Ford Assassin Coat on deck, Swag Level:
To those who say there wasn't character development, I'd say re-watch again, the Bond from CR to Spectre changes for the better (and I'll leave out the particulars).
To those expecting the main antagonist to be brolic and unstoppable, Bond Bosses aren't like that (unless they are ex-agents themselves), but normally that's why they literally have an army of Goons and Enforcers to deal with Bond and his people. In this case the writers were really playing up the global paranoia when dealing with terror and notion of "Big Brother is always watching" to a fairly realistic degree.
Speaking of Goons, Bautista did the damn thing, and I think in his opening scene they tried to imitate The Mountain vs The Red Viper from Game of Thrones, you'll see what I mean. Overall, that guy wasn't human with the amount of punishment he survived, so he is on the Jaws-level of Goon for Bond. He gave Bond that work in a manner I've haven't seen in the 23 films prior to this, trust me.
The quality of Bond Girls has been top-notch, though that is another thread, but unfortunately not enough Monica Belucci as I thought it would be, but to be fair she wasn't as crucial to the plot in comparison to Swan's character.
