Long story short, the couple is basically slowly abducted by in this case James McAvoy and his wife. The other couple basically refuses to accept the reality of their fate which is that they're going to be killed unless they escape. They don't and McAvoy and his wife drive the other couple out to a remote rock quarry. They make the other couple walk down to the bottom and they are stoned/bludgeoned to death by McAvoy and his wife throwing massive rocks down at them

The director of the original basically did it to poke fun at the Danish culture and their tendency to ignore the red flags in life. Thing is, that can be applied to just about anybody too.

I liked the build-up a lot, the acting was cool, but thought the film had a ridiculous spin of events in the back half. to the point where it’s asking a lot of the audience to suspend their disbelief for the couple’s stupidity throughout. Was disappointed that a film that started off so subtle could end at such a dumb note.
