From a Character standpoint. :jbhmm:

His coming of age tale had a great overall arc of redemption and running with the second chance he'd been given, and didn't require him to be shat upon for most of the show's run for another character (Naruto) or marginalize the other main characters to the point of them being completely useless without him (Goku) and allowed him to go from Juvenile Delinquent to being a respectable Man of Code at the end.

He develop interpersonal relationships with the rest of the main cast - which is comprised of friends and former former enemies - that weren't borderline obsessive or straight up bullshyt that would never happen in the real world (Naruto) or just based on having a good fight that put the rest of his universe at the mercy of a genocidal tyrant (Goku).

He even had the romance part down pat. He had a realistic relationship with Keiko that felt genuine as fukk, and didn't involve a last minute revelation about how he feels about her after thirsting after the worst character in the show or him marrying her out of pity to keep a promise he didn't understand at the time.

Let us have a discussion, brehs. :sas1:

Yusuke better? Or y'all still walking with Goku and one of his many children he doesn't take care of?:sas2:

I've been saying that as a shonen series, Yu Yu Hakusho (the anime) had some of the best characterization I've seen in the genre. It had the strengths of the best coming of age stories while keeping the the degree of power-creeping well within bounds by employing the same tactics as Toriyama in Dragonball (not Z, the OG).

Yusuke was a punk, but it was completely understandable why. Even at the very end of the series he still wasn't perfect, but you were sure that he was on the right track with help from everybody.

Yusuke was definitely the best.

Although i WILL say that Naruto’s journey towards becoming Hokage had some really incredible episodes sealing with how he went from being shunned to being respected as a saviour of the village. He simped after Sakura wayyyyy too long and the friendship between him and Sasuke was too over the top (although I felt the ending battle kinda somewhat redeemed it)

Didn't Trunks come from the future and literally tell the Z fighters that if they didn't kill the Androids before they woke up, that the Androids would murder everybody and ruin civilization? And then the Z fighters were just like "we can't pass up this chance to fight really strong opponents, let's just train harder guys." Am I bugging when I say that happened? Although that kinda sounds like Yung Lightning and Yung Lightning was a legit protagonist.
