The show Adam Ruins Everything might have been canceled, but it appears that Adam Conover is still doing what he used to do on TruTV. Mainly he's taking a deep dive into different industries and telling stories and figuring out mysteries that other people might be overlooking. When it comes to Microsoft and its purchasing of Activision Blizzard, he thinks this isn't just about having the ability to offer even more titles on its own platform. In short, Conover thinks that while some people are comparing the company to the Netflix of gaming, he thinks the firm has its heart set on becoming the Amazon of gaming instead.

He explained that Microsoft can continue to use Game Pass and its ever-growing subscriber base as a way to undercut Sony and Nintendo, mainly because the company never has to make money off the platform. While Sony and Nintendo need their video game divisions to make money, Microsoft can lean on its larger business operations such as the Windows operating system that's used by almost every PC in the world not made by Apple.
This is where Conover's comparison of Microsoft and Amazon comes into play. Amazon has long been willing to take a loss with its various services because it knows it's growing faster than any of its competitors. He believes Microsoft is willing to do the same thing using Game Pass to the point where it could even run Sony out of business, or at least leave its competitors very weak.

That’s what u get when u keep poking a stick at one of the biggest companies in the world

This was always the path of Microsoft entering gaming, and its why they fear amazon and google entering gaming because they know they would do the same thing. This is what everyone with common sense knew that would happen back in the early 2000’s.

Adam is right and it takes an idiot NOT to see how what they are doing is very very bad for the industry.

Yep. Fact is Microsoft has been in the console business for 20 years and never managed to make great relationships with 3rd party publishers or devs and never managed to make more than 3 successful IP of their own. This is the end result of being knocked around for 20 years.

They knew they couldn’t survive another generation trying to make games on their own and gears, halo, and forza have been milked dry at this point.

So much for thinking the company you favor makes a superior product and people will flock to it regardless. I guess we're just a subscription service's success away from insolvency and bankruptcy.

I feel like Sony will be fine and a more successful Microsoft pushes the to innovation in different ways. Nintendo faced a much worse cliff from Sony and they made it out ok wouldn't you say?

I wonder how many people that are dikkriding Microsoft for this purchase are the same ones that have eternal smoke for Amazon for effectively doing the same thing.

Regardless of who's doing the buying, this trend of consolidation had potential to end up as a net negative for the customer.
