Lemme see if I can calculate the cost of my PC build since 2012 vs my consoles around the same time.If we added up total cost of PC + monitor + game cost vs console + tv + game cost im sure the console is twice the price of the pc
They not ready for that discussion though
PC build:
If I count my PC build starting from 2012 it'll be pretty hefty and might be off:
That was my FIRST foray into PC building(outside of my college build which my school paid for in 2008)
Then a few months later I bought a $30 sound card.
Then a in 2013 I did a GPU upgrade
Then it looks like the next day I bought M-ATX motherboard and protection plan for $66.
Placed: 5/9/2013
Status: Exchange
Order Total: $66.46
ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS Socket AM3+ 760G mATX AMD Motherboard
Then a couple months later I bought a 1TB Sata 7200RPM drive for $67 with 2yr protection. I still have that drive today in my PC.
Then in November 2013 I bought a new CPU cooler (CM hyper 212) for $29.99
Then June 2014 I bought a new PSU with plan for about $55.
The next month looks confusing as it shows like 3 to 4 transcations for video cards but I think I bought a R9 280, it had a coil whine issue so I returned it for a HD7970 from an exchange. I then seemed to have went to a R9 270X for $211 but I think this was from exchanging so I probably didn't pay the whole price for it.
Then I bought a new CPU/MOBO/PSU (Intel Pentium G3258) for about $160.
It's a bunch of other exchanges/swaps within the next few years. If I just gave a very rough estimate, I spent over $2000 since 2012 for my PC components including the monitor(s) that I bought over the past couple of years. I just knocked off about $300 since this is napkin math and I don't have exact receipts and every transaction recorded.
Now it's easier to calculate consoles since I can just use even numbers
2013 PS4 $400
2015 PS4(replacement)$214 from a Target deal that worked and came with two games
2016 PS4 Pro $400
2016 PS VR $400
4KTV(well technically this was used for both my PC and PS4)43 inch Sony 4KTV $600
1TB SSD $100 for PS4/PS5 in the future
Extra controllers/accessories let's just round it up to $100
Switch $299
This is about $2500 but I sold my PS4 in 2015 for $300 so about $2200. I counted the TV in that total since I mainly bought it at first to use with the Pro and my PC second(at the time I didn't have a monitor I was using my TV for my PC).
Technically, I could've spent less on my PC build and I didn't have to keep switching out my parts but it was fun. Also, that first build I bought in $2012 was shytting all over my PS3/360 graphics and held up nicely even in 2013 for the PS4. The only thing the PS4 had that was better was the GPU which I upgraded a few months later. The idea that you have to spend $2000 at the time of purchase is not true and on top of that, the PC I had was always better than my PS4/Switch/Xbox. Like right now I only need to get a new GPU this year which will already be more powerful than the PS4/XsX GPU.
