What y’all saying don’t even make sense. They are advertising their engine, not the PS5.

Why the hell would make a demo specific to an individual platform?

Of course this demo can run on a PC and Laptop , it could even run on an Iphone if Epic removed many assets and lower the resolution/fps.
This is like when a game gets ported to the switch ...yeah its the same game technically but it gets downgraded in some way.

They said it runs slightly better on a laptop with a 2080 in it.

-The Epic guy is saying the first scene(Lumen) can run at 40fps on his notebook, not the whole demo.

-If its a 1080P screen, 2 triangle per pixel, make some compression on vertex, than you still can run this demo, no need very high bandwidth and IO like PS5.

-UE4.25 implemented asynchronous/overlapped loading (Because bottleneck was the CPU). They overhauled their shaders to work well with the event-driven loader. This gave them >50% loading speed improvement.

-In the final UE5 scene, compression and careful disk layout avoided the need for high speed SSD. The workload wasn't that high.

-Guy mentioned they can run the demo in the editor at 40fps, not 40+ but did not specify resolution.

-Currently Nanite has some limitations such as only works on static meshes, doesn't support deformation for animation, doesn't support skinned character model, supports opaque material but no mask.

-Lumen costs quite a bit more than Nanite.UE5 could eventually be a hybrid renderer using both Lumen and Raytracing in the future.

So its not the whole demo , which i imagine is the part where she starts flying.

Sure. He says nothing about a downgrade :comeon:

and he also says an SSD the speed of PS5 was not needed for the demo.

As a native Chinese speaker, i am 100% sure he don't know what is he saying, the Epic China stream very clearly said it's running on a laptop, not running via video(why would your "video" running with 40fps?).


He doesn’t know what was said.

Is it a multi platform engine where none of this matters? Or are you hell bent on making sure that a Chinese epic engineer already got hands on the demo and ran it on a laptop to prove the PS5 isn't special? Larry stansは最低!:picard:

He is going against the founder and CEO of epic games, the people that made the demo. I doubt that chinese team actually has the demo
and if they did...would they have the authority to be showing it off? like no other PC sites is talking about no PC demo.
