the reason why dev's aren't selling is that people are only looking for blockbuster games or sequels that they know would give them their money's worth.
Nowadays every game tries to be COD or Uncharted or a combination of the two. The innovation has stopped. No devs is actually trying to be creative. It's just a bunch of ideas stolen from multiple games that don't really fit together.
I hate this action era of games. Every week some stupid shooter game comes out and devs complain that sales have dropped. Stop making shytty ass games.

Economics plays a big part in this...
People are only checking for blockbusters because games these days cost $65...The majority of these games are simply not worth that pricetag for the reasons you mentioned...Most people simply don't want to spend that kind of money on a game that will be completed and forgotten in a week...
Not only that but $65 doesn't even get a full game these days...You have to pay for "DLC" in order to play the rest of the game which in most cases raises the total cost of the game up to damn near $100...
Companies patent things all the time that never see the light of day. I doubt this is in the PS4.

Edit: And to be honest, it wouldn't bother me if they went this direction....
....as long as they lower the game prices enough to compensate for no-longer having to compete with the secondary market.

It'll probably be a system where you get so many "passes" to play the game on a unique console. They just can't eliminate having multiple consoles in one house or going to a friends with a game.....they will try to limit it though

Yes and no.
GS would just stop trading in next-gen stuff and just go retro. They still sitting on mountains of NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1/2, N64, Gamecube and Dreamcast titles. GS knows that retro is still a very lucrative market and will go this route if and when this happens.
Maybe then i can get a copy of Earthbound for less than a hundred. Maybe..
