this generation is not the time for this, just like it is not the time for an always online or all download system. it's not even time for 4k gaming. this mobile device business phenomenon is probably going to change consoles, but not yet. we are stuck with poor internet infrastructure, diminishing returns on computing power, and a TV quality plateau serving as a bottleneck to change.

Swapping parts might as well be a thing next gen.
That would be nice, but they'd have to make it super easy. The average consumer is not gonna know how to take apart a ps4 and add a new apu or shyt like that. Plus I don't know how you can swap out the current hdmi input and put a 2.0 on there

I was thinking something like how Lenovo did for their old gaming laptops where you could add an extra gpu into a drive bay for more performance.

With the level we're at now especially with M$ and Sony it shouldn't be a problem.

But the current consoles use gpu/cpu combos right now. So it would be difficult for some. The laptop idea is the way to go though, for sure. Maybe next gen

:jbhmm: why wouldn't they do this in the first place
Cell phones are about to be more powerful than consoles. At this rate of tech development we can't have the old console life cycles as the hardware will be horribly outdated within no time. Makes sense to go upgradable going forward
