Everything about it is great. The writing is incredible and intricate, a minor event that happened in season 1 will come back up and have a payoff in a later season. The cinematography is amazing. The music by Ramin djawadi is the best you'll find in television and film. The acting is fantastic as well. There's literally nothing bad about this show. No character is safe, your favorite character can die at any moment. It's just an amazing show.

but do yourself a favor and just watch.. its starts slow but the payoffs from being with these characters from jump is amazing

There were a few Black people on the show. But it is mainly a story about an alternative universe old ye time Europe so yeah it's 99% cacs.

I thought The Sopranos was the Epitome of Television, but GoT is on the same level holy god.

It may look like that this year, but fantasy didn't ramp up heavy til season 5. Prior to that its just sprinkled in.

Just a GOAT-level political drama set in medieval period. Acting, production, writing is superb. t*ts, ass, sex, misogyny, gluttony, torture, rape, incest, gruesome violence, unexpected twists... this ain't ya grandfather's King Arthur

i was where you are, i'm not into fantasy at all. i've seen a couple harry potters sitting home flipping channels and shyt but you'd never catch me going to the movies to see these types of flicks. but this shyt is piff...

interesting, multi layered story
action - battles, gruesome deaths, fights
magic
lots of history/lore built in - great world building
interesting characters and character development
good dialogue
sex and naked hoes lol
dragons
good to great acting
dope sets, costume design, shooting locations
backstabbing/loyalty
lots of easter eggs/foreshadowing/and things to keep you guessing/mind working

i say try it, the first half of season 1 is slow while everything gets set up, but by episode 7 things pick up and you should be hooked, and if you make it to episode 9 and still are , then it aint for you

For the first few seasons, it was a combination of the writing (the nuanced characters and plots, the subversion of fantasy tropes, the palace intrigue, etc) and the titillation (t*ts and dragons)

In the time since the show moved past the books they're based on, the writing has fallen off a cliff but its budget has skyrocketed. So the appeal of the show now is mostly the titillation, the fanservice, and the fact that we're finally wrapping up a story 25 years in the making

I've never watched it but I would be interested in watching it off the hype I'm just not into medieval stuff.

I'll give you a link to a site with all the episodes if you want/don't have HBO. There are a ridiculous amount of threads on here about the show if you want an idea of what the show it's about. I just don't get the logic of saying "I have no desire to watch it" and then asking nikkas to explain why it's popular. There are a lot of shows the coli brehs hype up that I just never got around or had the desire to watch. If the urge were to strike me to watch one of them, Id just do my Googles search for one of the threads about it and decide if I wanted to press play on episode one.

I started watching it because my girlfriend read(s) the books and she was into the show when I first started seeing her. I don't think it's "so great" but I do like it, even though the quality of writing has taken a sizable dip.

Some people like the production, the [early] political plots, the violence, fantasy aspects, the nudity, etc...

Honestly you should just watch the first episode and see if you like. It's the weekend so just set aside some time and see what you think...
