:what:

I noticed something from that Big Bang Theory thread......

I've watched sitcoms with laugh tracks/studio audience laughter nearly my whole life. Some of them were hilarious and GOAT status (Seinfeld, Martin), some were okay (Friends, Steve Harvey Show), and some were not that funny (Saved By The Bell). But I never had a problem with the laughter in any of those shows....and I thought neither did anyone else. I actually thought the laughter in the show was what made it a sitcom, and that was generally accepted.

Now here comes shows like The Big Bang Theory, which granted isn't everyone's type of humor, and I can understand why some people would find its humor and jokes unfunny.....but then I see people talking about "I hate the stupid laugh track/studio audience laughter".....wtf? (and that's not just on here, I've seen many similar comments on different sites and forums.)

So shows like Martin and Seinfeld are good, with the exception of the laughter between the jokes? Would they have been as funny or funnier if they were done sans laughter like The Office and My Name Is Earl?

Someone help me out here. Am I wrong? Does the laughter between the jokes actually affect the humor? Or is it a dumb complaint from people who don't like the show to begin with?

Real people laughing was so much better breh. Seindfeld early seasons had real laughter. Then got replaced with a laugh track. (In 94-95 season 5 or 6) that's when seindfeld starting falling off. I don't know how the fukk u would like somone pushing a laugh button to make fake laughter

I've heard the laugh track on BBT is garbage

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKZUg-bTOak"]Windows 7 is much more user-friendly than Windows Vista. I don't like that. - The Big Bang Theory - YouTube[/ame]

... don't see how anyone can laugh at this show at all

See, I always personally thought the laughter was there to give the show a more lighthearted atmosphere, to set the mood for the viewers, so to speak - not necessarily to indicate that each joke is funny, on some "See? We have laughter after that line. That means it's funny....so you laugh now. Do it."

I guess I can understand the laughter sticking out like a sore thumb when you think the jokes stink....but you don't notice it when the jokes are actually funny to you, since you're laughing as well

But is there really a difference between actual studio audience laughter and fake laughter? I mean yeah, you can tell if you listen close enough, but it's still laughs between jokes

And the thing is, the last time I checked, TBBT did use real audience laughter mixed in with fake laughter (you can tell the laughing is real during scenes like when Penny gave Sheldon that napkin for Christmas)

I don't mind laugh tracks if the show or the particular joke is funny. It can become annoying when you're constantly hearing it and it isn't.

Its trash in 90% of shows. Seinfeld is my GOAT sitcom and I think it would have worked as well without a laugh track but I understand why it was put in in the first place.

Early to mid-2000s is when I stopped tolerating laugh tracks. Pretty much once Curb, The Office, & AD had established themselves as the best comedies on TV.

I think most people are still fine with them though. At least that's what the ratings for those bullshyt shows on CBS would indicate.

People on IMDB go crazy about laugh tracks. I'm older so i never notice. I grew up with them i guess.

every damn comedy thread on imdb is screaming "it should be single camera with no laughing!'

I like normal comedies. Not everything can be Community.

Because a laugh track implies people dont know when to laugh.....Sitcoms with laugh tracks are ridiculous. Every other line of dialogue is a joke and thus needs a laugh track.
People dont talk like that.
