where was that jab in the first montell griffin fight when he needed it? :francis:

It was apparent after the second fight he didn't need the jab to beat Montell Griffin. Could he have jabbed more during that first fight sure, but the reason why he lost to Griffin wasn't because he was being outboxed, it was because he got disqualified because dude got penalized for doing something that happens frequently in boxing.

Roy knew he had to use it vs John Ruiz. To say he didn't have a jab is false really.

As I said before Roy Jones Sr. Gave his son all the tools to be one of the most gifted fighters of all time. It's well documented of the extreme training methods that Sr put on Roy as a small child to a man. If you don't know look it up or you can hear a piece what his dad did to him.

if roy got with eddie futch or bill miller he would have been the greatest fighter of all time. theres certain things roy sr couldnt teach him because he didnt know them. talking about technical aspects.

This is the documentary that was made when Jones was P4P King moving up to HW to face John Ruiz. Jones trained to hard to bulk up with Mackie Shilstone. The same trainer that helped bulk up Michael Spinks to fight at HW.

  • Jones was getting smashed by his HW sparring partner when he first started sparring.
  • Jones was really 200lbs at the initial weigh-in but the Dr. messed up and weighed him in 193. Come fight night RJJ was 199lbs when he was re-weighed.
  • RJJ being the first man in 100 years to win titles from MW to HW.
  • RJJ speaking about his Dad beating him and saying how he didn't have a childhood.
  • He made history but he also ruined himself moving back down in weight in that short time frame at that age. :mjcry:

All in all he still my GOAT in my eyes. :blessed:

most talented fighter i ever saw. would have loved to see him in his prime agains calzaghe. their fight was basically a way past it jones.
Roy was 1 of my favorite fighters, but then the Calzaghe fight happened. He didn't even try to win. I still ain't forgave him behind that shyt.

I look at Roy's speed compared to Sugar Ray and Floyd and I just be laughing. He was like Quicksilver in boxing...even fast guys would get popped too quick with a combo and pot shot right before that jab or power punch would even try to find it's target. It's one of the craziest things you'll ever see in boxing. The Reggie Johnson knockdown is INSANE..one of the best moments in boxing history to me. A hook and follow up right that FAST? Come on, man:laugh:

imagine how great he could have been if he focused more on boxing skills and had actually had a jab :wow:
He had excellent boxing skills but he was so gifted and had such great reflexes, that he got beyond all of that by the time he was going strong. He could stack up on the ropes and NO ONE COULD HIT shyt....

What other boxer would be able to beat James Toney in his prime 10 rounds to 2 (generously) if they were the same weight? We're talking about one of the slickest/most skilled fighters of all-time.

It's even arguable if Toney even won a round.

Name me one.

Prime Roy Jones Jr. was the best fighter I've ever seen. Going back to watch his fights on youtube made me realize even though I was a big fan, I still under appreciated what dude did in that ring.
