:leon: those are terrible numbers across the board...:heh: you respond to somebody saying "stop comparing 2012 to 2003" with a ytd top sellers list with whopping grand total of THREE platinum selling albums in all genres of music...outside of Adele those numbers are atrocious...

Did I say those numbers were great? He said that no one outside of Taylor Swift does numbers... Adele does numbers, Mumford is about to be platinum (their album just dropped 3 weeks ago), Jason Aldean is not on that list yet (his first week was 415k, so 2nd week should have him on it)...

No, it's nowhere near '03 numbers. But I said that rappers aren't selling as much while other genres are still going platinum.

Or does that not make sense to you? :ooh:

Man Xzibits Napalm will go down as the most slept on album of 2012. He dropped a good to decent album but it barely got discussed. Don't remember seeing any promotion for it. He can't make a quick stop at 93.5 or 105.9 make a few extra thousand :to: cmon X

Very first sentence of your post was

Um... what? Pop/rock record sales are just fine for the most part.

Nope...makes no sense to me...cause it looks pretty clearly like the entire industry across the board is struggling pretty much as much as rap...one random superstar in a genre doesn't mean the entire genre is "doing numbers" any more than the handful of random rappers that can still go platinum do...

You sound surprised. To most, music these days is a form of expressing image. Looking like rappers, pulling up to the clubs bumping certain music that others say is cool, repping these rappers' clicks like they're part of them...

Buying an album does nothing to help that image. Getting it for free is just easier and quicker. But they'll blast that album in front of all their folks and these chicks just to show them what's up.

Just how it is in rap culture these days.

Put it this way.

Adele sold 4 mil this year. Taylor Swift is platinum. Mumford is going platinum. Lionel Richie went platinum making a country album. One Direction is platinum. Jason Aldean is gold for sure and possibly platinum by Christmas. Maroon 5 got a shot for platinum. Bieber probably scrapes platinum.

That's 6 total possible platinum albums. Not one rap album has a possibility of going platinum in '12 unless Kanye drops this year.

So yes, sales across the board down. Actually, 4.4% less than last year's sales. But the point I'm getting at is that the top 20 albums, for better or worse, only have 2 rap artists in it. Pop/rock are the highest selling albums of the year. There is a consistent fanbase for those two genres. Regardless of how much these albums have sold.

yeah i knew that, sad still. im not gonna like i copped reasonable doubt and some dipset shyt and was on their steez, same thing with wu but i was still happy to cop the music.one of the reasons i try collect everything i can cause a few years ago i saw people with big collections of things that you cant get anymore, its like seeing the old heads on here talk about rare tapes and vinyl cuts that they got and you cant have you feel me, im trying to be that guy were people be like "dame you got some rare shyt over here" and i just give them the :youngsabo: look. i also like supporting stuff i like, i always tell people you get what you paid for tbh, i know i invest in good music i like.

all i know is that the revolution will not be televised.

It's all about the singles. Just ask Flo Rida.

The idea that Tech Nina makes music for cacs is a cop out. Just cause he doesn't appeal to you and your fantasy gangsta tales doesn't make it music for cacs.

He's a unique artist. He has a cult following. Black, latino or white, it don't matter. His music is made for hip hop fans, not cacs.

This is years a go, but this is his response to all you nikkas who like to talk without listening.

Gotcha...still doesn't make much sense to me considering that "pop" ain't really a specific genre at all...and out every one of them names you just named, I'd be hard pressed to pick out who among them make the same kind of music (outside the country ones)to claim they represent any kind of consistent fanbase or genre...Mumford and a Sons is an english folk band, Adele is some kind of retro soul rnb singer, Lionel Richie is an 80's rnb legend, One Direction is a sappy boy band which I guess you could classify as pop...but is an entirely different type of music completely than the hip hop influenced rnb that bieber does that I'm guessing you're also classifying as "pop"...and in any event makes them all "one-off' superstar exceptions rather than a sign of their entire genre "doing numbers" ...for every Mumford and Sons there's a bunch of other random folk bands that ain't selling a goddamn thing like the rap list in the first post...no rap acts going platinum is just an arbitrary function of the release dates...if Drake comes 2 months later or if Jay released an album this summer...rap would have their "token" platinum artist on that list too...which is to say the people on that list ain't exactly "rank and file" members of their respective genres...they're the top flight stars among them...and even with them mostly topping out at gold, ain't indictative to the rest of the genre

Damn nobody in rap really sells anymore. This is not a new revelation or nothing but it's sad at some of these numbers these guys are pushing. You telling me Prodigy can't move 100,000 copies. Even in this climate. The game is all jacked up now.
