I remember when that Natas Kaupas came out it was so demonic, friends...Moms wasn't having some of the symbolism...

Hustle you got an OG Caballero deck in your collection?

Natas was the man back then. I remember he ollied that cow at Savanna Slamma or whatever. there was all that talk that his name was 'satan' spelled backwards. I remember his story was that his parents though he was gonna be a girl and wanted to name him Natasha. but then he said 'fukk it' and ran with it with that 101 deck

Thats wassup.. I read a couple of your articles.. You must have gone mainstream around the same time I fell back and stopped actively checking on the culture..

The only Black skater me and my cousins really knew about was Ray Barbie and he was just getting started from what I remember..
i got into thgame, relatively early..first procontest was Munster '92..

and, Rays still around.. hes really good people.. i shot a spread wearing his limited issue Vans a few years back, and he personally shot me a pair.. even after everything, that was huge to me.. i looked up to that dude so much growing up, and for him to do that was a huge honor..

u still mees around on the board, much..? alot of folks from back in the day been getting back in the scene heavy.. good seeing old friends i grew up with, pros, etc back out there just having fun with it :smugfavre:

that middle deck is cray!

so,..did you get residuals for every deck sold?
also,..how do other skaters feel about weezy.
possibly making more than likely a larger check than them. while not being an actual skater?

imo, it would be better to show love to skaters by honoring them.

than actually undermining them, in the manner weezy is.

for the limited board- yes.. one of the few times I got residuals.. other than that, its usually a flat rate.. anywhere from $2-5k monthly for boards, plus other sponsors pay well.. a 4/5k a month, plus all the travel, product, etc just to do what you love aint a bad deal.. especially in the 90s/early 2000s.. now, kids alot of these kids are seeing that Tony Hawk/Christian Hosoi/Gator dough.. them cats were making like 30k/month on boards alone in the mid-80s.. :whew:
the love of skating and skater's love to do it, is similiar to my love of emcee'n.
i just do it to do it and what happens from it happens from it.
i think i have done well to not be into the commercialism.
which is why i find this whole weezy shyt a ruse.
as weezy's inability to ramp up just makes no sense for all his talk on these vids.
it is gateway noob to liar bandwagoning at best. just like his ability to pick sports teams.

since i was seven i have idolized tony hawk and chrisitian hosoi, especially.
shyt thrashin', thrasher mag vids and curb dogs were on repeat.
just as hard as style wars and wild style for me.

yo, hustle,....
why don't you commission weezy to hire you as a consultant, to train duke.
the rub would help your permeation in the urban market, as an added plus.
maybe you could instill some realness into his skating.

from what I gather, alot of people have skated with dude.. some of the best.. he just don't got it.. he's too worried about things that have absolutely nothing to do with skateboarding..

imo, its like he knows hes lost a huge part of his hip-hop fanbase, so he's literally reaching for anything to remain in the public eye.. his music doesn't seem to have the same  effect it did years ago, so he has to find a way to keep his name out there at all costs.. be interesting to see if he actually stuck with skating.. i don't think he will.. he'll probly get some kinda "injury", that will prevent him from ever skating again and his dumb ass fans will eat it up..

damn, you takin me back. I saw Animal Chin right before I started skating. it was all about street plants and launch ramps. my first board was a Schmitt Stix Ripsaw. I remember my boy had a Hosoi Hammerhead. I think I remember that Hosoi pic. what is that, a 'crooked cop'? :heh:

my best friend growin up, had the Twig Stix.. man, I remember when that Chris Miller Schmitt Stix dropped with the pointy nose.. :lawd: that board, was one of the first skinny street boards with concave and everything..dog, that shyt was TOO sweet..

btw, Natas ollied the cowin Ohio Skaetout.. he didnt skate Savanna Slamma.. Savanna Slamma was the contest Gonz rode up the 6ft quarter, and front board UP that tall rail.. that shyt was epic.. one of the first videos I ever saw.. I was hooked on street from that point, because my first few years I really only skated vert & pools.. :jawalrus:

I hadnt picked up a board since I started playing basketball seriously in the early 90's and started getting on those AAU travel teams... My son got into skating a few years ago so I would just mess around with his board to try to teach him a few things I could remember (Its not like riding a bike, you can lose that shyt imo)

I was always too shook to do any serious vert, I was always more comfortable on a quarter pipe than the half...Now all the little Black kids in my neighborhood skate so its crazy...But there is no parks in the area so everyone just does street...

My brother still skates everyday in Atlanta, he's pretty serious....

:whoo: you gotta get ollies.. then kickflips.. then kickflips down stuff.. then boardslides.. followed by boardslides on rails/ledges.. then boardslides on a rail down banks, stairs, etc.. then varial flips.. off, and down stuff.. then half varial flip, so you get acclimated with your caspers.. then, caspers.. :whew: follow that, by learning full 360 flips.. off, and down stuff.. once you got that, you wanna take that to boardslide, but your boards not gonna do the full 360flip, before you boardslide.. its more 270 flip..

then, once you get those down- you wanna try 540 flips(only a few people can do em, but you got it..).. once you get that trick, and control it well enough.. you wanna do it to boardslide.. if you get lucky, you might land darkslide.. flipping you board back over after all that footwork & wizardry might be a chore- but, you got this, fam..

when you trying to get started on step 1..? :stylin:

thats whats up.. i never played bball serious, but always hooped with my brothers and the older cats to pass time.. they would teach me all these techniques on jumping, and I would train with them alot which helped with my ollies and alot of skateboarding actually.. i still can dunk, to this day and im only 6'1..

my lil brother isin the A, as well.. he's heavy into skating, and I've taken him with me on the road to events and things like that.. he gets hooked up with free product, so I'm hyped for him...thats all he's ever really wanted..
