He only got caught by being greedy and not stopping plus he bought the last ticket himself. They saw him on the gas station security camera and recognized he worked for the lottery. He wanted all the money that time no more splitting with the others.

Before that he tried to get a lawyer to claim it anonymously and they said if I cant do it anonymously then I don't want the millions. So that set off red flags that anybody would walk away from millions because they want to be anonymous so bad.
