Kovalev s head was sitting there to get knocked off if Weeks didn't jump in. I thought the stoppage was premature but the end was coming right there or in the next round. No way Kovalev could have recovered from that work

Exactly. Everyone talking about the right hand, but also keep in mind there were 4-5 other clean shots to the head after that with a few clean body shots as well. Kovalev was just thoroughly done.

Even the announcers said he looked finished.

Kovalev didnt pace himself well. He went in too busy, theres 12 rounds in a championship fight. SOG knew it was a battle of attrition and stuck to the gameplan. He wouldve won without the TKO, but its icing on the cake for sure.

It just illustrates that it's hard even for a top guy to go/plan for 12 rounds. That's what makes the McGregor fight so hilarious. Dude is going to gas fairly quickly.

it wasnt a "bad" stoppage...but it wasnt a good one either. Tony Weeks is an excellent referee. I thought he shouldve let it go a little longer though to let Ward get the definitive stoppage. was there no standing 8 in this? he couldve been administered a count because he sat on the ropes.

He was in a tough spot. He stopped protecting himself and was literally just waiting to get knocked the fukk out. Can't blame Weeks for stopping it.
