Refs know when someone wants out. Kovalev was begging for a break or a point deduction since round 7. Ward could've tee'd off ala Floyd/Ortiz in round 7 but he didn't.
Kovalev wasn't even attempting to throw back in round 8, and he was literally sitting there. His corner seemed to have no issue with the stoppage

People forget that Andre Ward is like Bhop 2.0 the man is one of the most skillful dirty fighters in the game, Kovalev never seemed to respect Ward's craft enough to understand that.
