Damn, no company laptop? They got you vpn/remote desktopping into a computer or something?
Nope haha. I don't know if that's subject to change once I complete my training in about 2 months. Right now im just learning different tools like Jmeter, Postman ( I already knew ) , Docker and Kubernates through their learning materials like udemy and building a project on their specifications.

It's a really chill company and it pays well , but it ain't no Microsoft or JP Morgan.

Yea, I haven't worked at a company that didn't supply a laptop. Even when I was doing consulting and my company gave us laptops, the client's still gave us their own company laptops. How do they know you can afford up to spec pcs? shyt, they get discounts too. All good though.

I did have a friend who used to clear pcs of past employees and he said he found mad porn on he laptops, lol. Thats what your personal computer is for, lol

Man I just don't get it. When my personal laptop died and I had no other choice, I set up a whole ass VM for me to do personal shyt on, and at most it was email, bills, and the Lenovo website while I was ordering a new one.

Had to give a presentation at my job , and needed my web browser for it . The window is was opened to was the coli's homepage with my username and all ...hope one of them don't decide to do some investigation on me :sadcam::sadcam: it was recorded too.

I usually clear my browsing history so nothing weird shows on the url bar, while typing.

:yeshrug:

but you said you hated your job, your company, your boss and that you were praying for the day they let you go

Amateur :mjlol:

:dead:

I would be paranoid as hell. I haven't said anything on the coli that I'm ashamed of necessarily, but I don't think many of my posts would fly in this pc era. :wow:

Man, this is wild. :dahell: What is wrong with people? I don't even trust the microphone on my work laptop. I shut that thing down as soon as work is over. And there are certain conversations that I refuse to have in the same room as my work laptop when it's on.

Very good point. Someone got fired from one of my employers because she said something about a higher up on slack. Anything that's remotely venting, we gotta get on a phone call

I'm definitely paranoid about putting something in writing on a company slack. I hit folks offline for that, and even then, I'm still careful of what I say cause I don't trust none of these people.

Other ppl tried to convince me that it's cool, that they don't check it, but I said nah. I don't buy it. I think them white folks be trying to set me up.

Won't catch me slippin :umad:

I decided awhile ago I was there to only do my job and that's it. I don't want to hear about any drama, I don't want to talk about any drama, I don't need to know what you did over the weekend, I don't want to be cool with anyone, etc. Awhile ago I found out something came back around to me based on some details I told someone I thought I was cool with. Turns out they were very cliquey with another group of people. Some straight high school shyt.

Can't trust anybody at work, so I don't talk to them about anything except the job.

Anyways, come in to say I'm getting tired of web dev but other areas either don't pay as much or there ain't as many roles :snoop:
Anyone here ever get into something else that offers all the same positives as web dev, but ain't web?

I'm working on software.

With that being said, I agree with you. I act friendlier than I really am cause they are open to helping you out if you ask them about their weekend, what they did on vacation, etc etc. But I don't really care.

I'm here to get paid and soak up as much game as possible.

I listen to everything they want to tell me about themselves, while offering as little info as possible about myself.

And I don't tell them nothing that I don't want to hear again.

What do you mean by same positives? Like, I enjoy backend dev, and know its a bit different than front end work, but I dunno if you'd consider that similar enough though. Maybe full stack development? Or even mobile development? I don' know if you do react, but react-native is pretty cool too, and its multiplatform, so you can develop an app for ios and android

Ah, I meant just something not front end/back end/full stack. I've done all three professionally the last five years and currently do full stack right now. Mass majority of jobs I see is basically crud.

I was thinking more like kernel or embedded but they don't got the same insane pay rates or same amount of benefits and there are far less jobs available. The deeper you go down the embedded road the more you get away from software and start getting into electrical engineering territory as well and the industry practices start getting more old-fashioned. I think one of the only other options is machine learning/data science.

Yea, Data science would be cool. Not sure if you can get right into that though. You may either need a postgrad degree or be able to move within your company to the DS/ML department. Only other thing would be Data Engineering, but that's a bit DataOps (Devops for data), and backend type of work. Or maybe, i think they call it Analytics Engineering now? Like a more technical business analyst that can create reports/dashboards
