There was another article where they said those guys raised some money from some Chinese investors that valued the company at 3.6 billion. Facebook itself rejected some buyout offers before it went public , the founders probably think they are leaving money on the table if they sell out early. It worked for Facebook but not every company is going to be in that position.

Snapchat turned down a 3 BILLION (yes with a B) buyout offer from Facebook. While many seem to think that was a good idea I'll admit that for that amount of money would make me consider selling out

ARTICLE LINK

Man I seriously need to get in the APP hustle....Who the fukkkk turns down $3B over this stupid app? :wtf: I'd be fighting my pocket to get my pen out......I couldn't sign the papers fast enough. Snapchat's worthless, and I'd feel pressure to get out before everyone woke up and realized it. .. I have a feeling those Snpchat geeksters are going to REGRET not :handshake: this deal!
The white fugger who thinks it's worth more.
Facebook did start at $1 billy and they upped it to $3 billy. It's like anything more than that, they can hire people to develop a snapchat-like website. I would have taken that offer immediately. It's like you don't have to work anymore with $3 billion. You can if you want to.

I would use that to buy property and live off the rent.

yeh but i dont see no ads on instagram or nuttin like that
I think it's a vehicle for indirect marketing. Instagram posts are related to users' Facebook accounts. I don't know either.
The thing is, I don't see how Snapchat can be used as a vehicle for marketing. It's got a growing number of users but its just an app. Maybe Facebook would change how Snapchat can be used or appears and use that as a springboard for marketing and advertisements. I still think Snapchat has a fad-ness to it and should sell while it is hot. Then, Facebook will have to file paperwork on a $3 billion write-off.

he said he's gonna wait til 2014... he knows what he's doing Even though people are fickle and will eventually abandon snapchat.. you gotta understand he was offered 1 billion a few months ago... now the offer is 3 billion.... he's gonna wait a lil more and get 5-7 billion.

If they were to pull $12 million a month, it'd still take them 21 years to make 3 billion:pachaha:
:heh: I just used that as an example of how in app purchases can make money.
Listen, I said in my first post that I think they made a bad move in not selling to FB. :usure:

Facebook is in the data mining business. Instagram provides another stream of public data to FB.

I think if they woulda bought snap chat, then FB would keep a database of all the users pictures that are being sent. I can image there being value in companies/gov't seeing what pictures are being taken by people when users think that those pictures will be deleted.

Keep in mind the government can't monitor you them selves but they can hire private companies to provide the information that they need. So each time you use the services of a private company (ex: FB, Instagram, SnapChat) and you agree to the Terms Of Service, you agree that the company can use your private information any way they want.

I made a thread about this..."Video on Terms Of Service"

FB probably knows that the government would find value in those pictures and when their knockoff version of the app was unsuccessful they probably figured it'd be best to buy the existing, successful, app.

:snoop: it's like those tards on "Shark Tank" with huge ego's thinking they got a product from god.

makes me  when they get too greedy and the "sharks" to retract their offers, and they get left with nothing.
