Neither of those women are portrayed in a positive light. And that brand of hip hop is not my taste.

Positive would be a show not centered around crime, deception, revenge, etc.Man stop it, it's TELEVISION, what's positive light to you? We're human, and black people make mistakes too, and if you're from the hood there's NOTHING on that show that you cannot relate to. Cookie IS a STRONG BLACK WOMAN. There would be you Empire Records without her $400,000 or her doing 17 years in prison.
Anika is beautiful and ALSO grew up rich, and I'm sure plenty of biracial (WHITE FATHER) women can relate to Anika.
...this is America, and we can't take pride in only the parts of its culture we like, we have to take it all and control aspects of it that relate to us. Lee Daniels did his thing.
You'd turn around and watch Game of Throne and see Daenerys as portrayed in a positive light right?
fukkboy
From what I understand Scandal is about more than Olivia and the pres reln and I love Empire its
More so for Hakeem though
Them lipsi know, i love him
he's so corny and cute

Yes, we make mistakes too, but I won't support a show focused on those mistakes when that's all we seem to get. Last thing we need is another source of negative perception. Maybe I'll watch when non-Blacks have more positive examples to judge us by.
I am from the hood. I can relate to the show. Cookie is stong, but in a negative way... the same way non-Blacks (and some Black men) view Black women as a whole. TV/media provides a very narrow, very negative perception of us. I choose not to contribute.
But I don't understand the problem. I'm not tryin' to convince you to not watch the show. Enjoy. I'm simply tellin' you why I don't watch.
Nah bruh. I'm not lookin' through white man's anything. Nor do I wanna be white. I know exactly who I am & it ain't none of those characters on either of those shows.Nah, I just think you're looking at your black identity through a white man's scope of superfluous scrutiny, YOU'RE BLACK...it's beautiful thing my dude.
You're never gonna be white, they're never gonna see you as white and you're never gonna earn any special initiations into some secret white club where they see you as equal, especially by diverging away from YOUR CLEARLY INFLUENTIAL CULTURE. They see you as POWERFUL, HANDSOME, and THREAT to their way of life, you actually weaken yourself by trying to conform to their rules.
You probably grew up watching pirates and gun slingers of the wild west, or comic books where a -typical white alpha males broke the law to make money and they were your heroes...Indiana Jones, Aladdin, Dukes of Hazard, Magnum P.I., Remington Steele, James Bond (a fukking oversexed, psychopathic, killer).
And these were just fictional examples, let's not talk about Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Christopher Columbus...
Stop worrying about how the white man is viewing you, he wants to be you. But the game is to be sold NOT told and Lee Daniels sold the game to Fox, Empire has 14.7 million viewers and a 5.6 rating among adults 18-49. And you busy telling the game to them for free, just for a seat at his table to be treated with second citizenry.
Meanwhile he at your parties trying HARD to be you...
