THEY'RE GOING TO DOUBLE DOWN ON THE CRAZY, BROTHER! THEY'RE NOT COMING BACK FROM THIS PRECIPICE, DUDE! THEY WILL RUN SANTORUM IN 2016 ON BASICALLY AN OPENLY FASCIST PLATFORM, MEAN GENE! THIS WON'T CHANGE UNTIL A MAJORITY OF REPUBLICANS OVER THE AGE OF 45 HAVE PASSED AWAY, BROTHER!

I think, eventually, social conservatives will get dumped and the party will move in a more libertarian-ish direction. But I think the religious right will put up resistance and slow this down as much as possible, to the benefit of Dems.

Yeah, in the long term they will have to move the center, but I don't know about within 4 years. Their base and their all-powerful punditry are digging in their heels harder than ever. They just might nominate some nut like Santorum in 2016.

Chris Christie would be the obvious choice if they want to win, but I don't know if he'll make it through the primary. A lot of their base are blaming him for Obama's W and they are despising him right now. If Christie does win the GOP primary, his primary state victories will almost all be blue states.

We'll see how much that hate loses steam in 4 years. But right now, this is the mentality of the Republican party:

SANTORUM WAS THE RUNNER-UP TO ROMNEY AND CHRISTIE IS A FAT NEW JERSEY fukk, BROTHER!

Yeah I don't see how they can dump or silence the social conservatives in four years. They have been cultivating this base since Nixon. As long as they cower to the pundits, they will never be able to move successfully to the middle. Which is laughable because the pundits have a self interest in riling up the base. They get paid either way. They are more successful and relevant during Democratic administration.

I don't see any candidates with the balls to tell Rush and company to STFU.

Moderates. They are going to dump the social conservatives, promote a faux fiscal conservative platform and steal the young and educated vote from the dems. All they need is a charasmatic young Rep from an urban area with a track record of pragmatic policy and bipartisanship.

And people are hungry for this theoretical voice...i welcome it...there DOES need to be a rartional fiscal conservative voice in america....i just dont want one who is a war mongering hyperconservative old guy....this is also why the house and govenors are fairly red these days

The Governors yes, but the House no. The House is red because of gerrymandering. Dems actually got more House votes than Repubs overall. It's crazy. Washington Post

I actually made a thread about that the other day:

Shyt is crazy that they can blatantly cheat like that. I'd like to think Obama will put some justices in that will side against it, but knowing him he probably won't.

They'll continue to win midterms because black/brown/Asian/young people don't vote in midterms, thus, all this talk of the GOP's death is overrated.

Not so sure about that people want to be able to keep killing fetuses and what not. Women don't want to go back to the kitchen. Blacks don't want to go back to the fields. Hispanics don't want to get deported. This election proves people are paying attention.

Less people voted than in 08, not sure how that shows "people are paying attention." People were supposedly paying attention in 08, yet they didn't vote on 2010.

Moderates.

It might not be in time for 2016, but they HAVE to win. You can't convince anyone that isn't an old white male that:

1. The 'white' Americans somehow have a manifest destiny to run the country.
2. Women should still be told by men how to live their lives.
3. The rest of the world doesn't matter.
4. Christianity is the alfa/omega.
etc.

It's just not possible - that Demographics gap they keep talking about is only going to grow bigger. They'll have less old white folk in 2016 to back their dumb ass ideas and the Obama generation will not suddenly fall for it in the coming four years.

The extremists have about 2 years left to maybe inspire some of their base for the 2014 elections, but come Presidential elections in 2016 they can't do what they tried to do with McCain/Romney. Their base will have grown smaller.

Im glad. If corporations are not happy, they are letting friends go and when friends are let go they lash out at whoever big business blames as the catalyst for layoffs.

believe me I'm with you. This is the problem with the left. Every time you tax, regulate and sue companies usually these impacts are felt by the consumer or their employees. Now taxes and regulations certainly have a place but I think they are just too heavy handed right now.
