because one way to fight government corruption and incompetence is to organize and become as self sufficient as possible with your fellow man and woman. reforming society does not always have to come behind some kind of confrontation with the government.

as to your second point i live in nyc so all i see is black people spending money with other races/nationalities. there are very few "african american" owned businesses in nyc, even in Harlem. so i consider that a form of economic exploitation.

although i want to be clear that i dont think its malicious at all. it's just groups of people in a foreign land looking for a come up, and i cant knock them for that. because thats what a good economy is built on, entrepreneurs who are organized, who are smart, and who work hard are supposed to be successful.

making a decent living selling goods and services to a niche group of people and not have any worries, that's all most families can ask for. so i dont knock the chinese for selling the black woman the $150 weave, or the arab selling black people the iphones, or the koreans selling the young black man the $175 shoe, or the west african running the shadow cabs or selling the fabrics and oils, or the arab running the deli... it's all a hustle.

i put more of the responsibility on "black" people and our poor spending and saving habits. there's no lack of purchasing power in the black community we're just spending money on the wrong shyt. it's not organized.

now snap back to the real world. nyc has the highest population of jewish ppl outside israel. the jewish politicians (bloomberg and his gang) are making policy right now to make life as difficult as possible for other ppl there not their own and esp. black and muslim ppl. stop and frisk and what not. even saw some other thread about surveillance on muslim ppl. i guess they can get the foot off that stop and frisk pedal and create something else...

people standing up to government incompetence/corruption can lead to people organizing to reform public policy. it can cause people to become more civilly engaged and communally engaged for a positive social outcome.

and this thread is about asking what it would take for the average person to reach the point where they do more than talk, but they actually take ACTION and dedicate their time in a very intentional way to help create positive social change.

but dont worry about it cuz we already know you aint doing shyt. your civic engagement begins with writing political essays filled with media talking points in HL and ends with christman carroling house to house for obama.

plus, when have i ever advocated committing violence against the US govt? i've done nothing but speak against that. a direct physical confrontation with the US govt is not a smart war strategy.

civic engagement looks like people coming together and working together, in whatever capacity they can.

it could be to spark discussion.
it could be to meet and exchange ideas.
it could be to organize civic action around a particular issue.
it could be to organize economically and do business together.

the collaborative efforts can take many forms.
