Deebo just spoke on being sluggish and having a shytty year and he was like a week out of camp. This dude ain’t even tested this arm since January, hasn’t been working out with it, hasn’t run any routes with new receivers or plays with new players, will have 3 weeks after being cleared, and you think it’s not gonna matter?
That’s just wishful thinking
Deebo didn't have a down year because he missed a week in camp, he said he was distracted because of a lot of factors, chiefly the trade talk and new contract. Players will miss a week because of family issues or a kid being born and don't miss a beat when they come back. Brock has been throwing since last week, so that will be 3 full months of testing his arm before the season starts. The only thing he'll be missing out on is practice with the team, which is something he already had a full season of. If he was a rookie learning a new system then sure, it would be a problem, but he's not. He's had the playbook the whole time, and we don't have any projected offensive starters he didn't already play with last year.
I'm not even saying missing OTAs and Minicamps won't have an effect, I just think it's marginal. He might have a sophomore slump and flame out anyway, but I don't see a reason to bench him for the start of the season if he's already been throwing for 3 months. I have no problem with Trey being given the keys to the car until preseason though, when we can have a true QB competition and the best man starts the season.
