Got chills watching this whole thing. The way "waterfalls" came about and Rico is still getting checks from that song today :wow:
:mjcry: At Rico giving Kast the publishing. He really lived by morals :mjcry:

:smh: At Kast literally taking ON's formula and running with it to make an album that went diamond
That story of Rico's mom letting 20+ kids stay in her house and work on music all times of the night and she didn't bother them :wow:and when Rico would get a check and make sure everybody in the house could :eat: is :wow:
You brehs should also watch this (2 parts)

That was a cool doc. I love hearing stories about and watching the creative process of song/album making.

The music industry is so fukked up. I'm glad to be on the outside looking in.

Great documentary. Just finished it. I gotta be honest and say that even though ATLiens is one of my favorite produced albums of all time (maybe top 10 even) I just never really gave these guys' discography the proper respect t deserves, and I didn't even know they produced some of the joints they did. I'm mostly a producer/beat head, so I'm a little embarrassed I didn't realize just how talented these dudes are.

Can anyone explain Earthtone Ideas/Earthtone III to me? So after Southernplayalistic, Earthone gradually did more and more beats from ATLiens to Aquemeni to Stankonia. Earthtone had Andre 3K in it, right? And Mr. DJ? But were they still around Organized Noize and in The Dungeon? Especially on releases like ATLiens and Aquemeni?

I mean I guess it was just Big Boi and Dre and Mr. DJ later on. From my Google/Wiki skills.

Man, :patrice: og how I feel about Outkast at the end if this.

On one hand, I agree with Rico that not having them a part of Speakerbox/Love Below, not even for one joint, is a little bit weak. No question Organized Noize put them on in a major way. Showing that love back for 1 or 2 joints would definitely have been cool. Definitely not really thanking them is a bit of a slight, for sure.

On the other hand, Organized Noize wasn't that dope (they admitted as mcuh) as the time of that album's recording, and no one owes you anything in the game. And if Big Boi and Dre were able to produce for themselves and do it dope as early as ATLiens, and creatively they wanted to do their biggest album without the help of anyone else on the production side of things...I also feel they sort of earned that right based on their body of work up to that point.

Also, I've heard stories that Dre and Big Boi weren't even on the same page during that album and that's why they did it as a double album of 2 separate discs anyways.

Yea, Earthtone = Dre, Big Boi and Mr. DJ only...to my knowledge. The name just changed a couple times, but it was always them.

They would just share production on the albums after SouthernPlayalistic...

And btw, surprised there was no mention of the Society of Soul album. Love that album. "Peaches n Erb" :banderas:

Agreed on all points, and I'm as big an OutKast/DF fan for the last 18 years as most. It did strike a cord with me, as well.

And furthermore, even in the doc ONP admitted to not being on their game right around that time, Rico was all on drugs and such and Ray not being 100% focused because he was stressed out and over it. That was right around '02-'03 when Speakerboxxx/TLB was being made.

That shyt caught me off-guard...damn. I didn't even realize OutKast didn't at least thank them in the acceptance speech. What's up with that? It seems like they're all still cool because, like he said, he was in their Stankonia studio while doing the interview. Also, ONP did several joints on Idlewild a few years after anyway.

I got chills when they were breaking down how Waterfalls was created, and when the actual song finally came on. :banderas:

Really good doc. I just hate two things: the fact that they're not rich after 20+ years of hits and work, and that the Dungeon Family is kinda fractured. But shyt, that happens all the time after a while in the music biz. :to:
yeah i never realized ONP wasnt on there. Sleepy is on the album though as a feature so i guess i just figured it was the usual.

On my forth spin tonight. Wish they would have interviewed Cool Breeze and kujoh
Also found it strange that Khujo wasn't on there. Wonder why. And Cool Breeze did speak a bit in it.

Also, they kinda went thru it quick towards the end when Rico was talking about OutKast not seeming thankful & never taking anyone's publishing, Gipp noted - "Rico never really owned us"...which, to me, seems like is the sentiment amongst the DF artists. I wonder if some or most were kinda turned off by Rico's perception of kinda him being their Puff Daddy.

It would've been interesting to see them go into that a lil deeper with the perspective of other members, but I wonder if it would've just made things awkward or thrown things off. Guess we won't know.
