Yeah they seem like genuinely good dudes. Ray for sure and his family for inviting all those dudes in.

Rico seems like an honest guy who wants to do right by those around him. Unfortunately the music biz is cutthroat. shyt, he was too nice...talking about he didn't want to take Interscopes money if he wasn't generating any hits. fukk Jimmy Iovine. They should've waited out the clock and took every penny they could from that bloodsucking culture vulture.

I think for Rico it was morals.. He didn't want money for stuff he wasn't doing.. I can respect him for that.. I do the same sometimes.. If you're passionate about what you do and you're good at it.. you don't know how to properly charge and you don't wanna get paid for stuff you sometimes find minuscule.

Also ... if he took the money for 5 more years and had no hits.. who knows what direction Jimmy was gonna go.. lawsuits... henchmen .. etc... just walk with the clear conscience

Its like if an athlete would renegotiate their contract because they had a bad year.

So Cal
I think that's because Dre and Big Boi were not part of the original crew.. They got brought in and blended.. So in his mind he's probably like you weren't even day 1 fam we adopted y'all .. but it funny how they dropped first though

P.A. dropped before outkast. one of their songs is used on one of the southernplayalistic skits.

loved it, Rico left ALOT of bread on the table by not taking any pub. they were never going to get that whole 20M from Jimmy, Cool Breeze was a good choice (should have been bigger) but Witchdoctor wasnt an Interscope type artist

Kast were weasels for not using them on SB/TLB but we already knew that. and i maintain that 80% of that album wasnt up to the Dungeon standards

Metro said at the end its going more towards their sound, i dont hear it yet. hope so, love their dedication to using live music and recording music the right way

Good post... I hear elements of ONP's sound, but nothing glaring. there are traces, and their fingerprints are on shyt, but it's not coming close to what ONP was doing. Just a different age...

the way Ray was talking about the music and his creative process... :banderas: ... it almost sounded like he was in a time warp, tho.

It was particularly poignant with Ray deliberately using the words "free form" and "organic" ... that shyt is all but dead. Glad some of the generation under them and those under that generation are trying to help revitalize them...

What was Nipsey cooking up with ONP? :lupe:

Has it dropped yet?:lupe:

Damn Rico was really hurt by them doing Speakerboxxx/Love Below without them.
That shyt caught me off-guard...damn. I didn't even realize OutKast didn't at least thank them in the acceptance speech. What's up with that? It seems like they're all still cool because, like he said, he was in their Stankonia studio while doing the interview. Also, ONP did several joints on Idlewild a few years after anyway.

I got chills when they were breaking down how Waterfalls was created, and when the actual song finally came on. :banderas:

Really good doc. I just hate two things: the fact that they're not rich after 20+ years of hits and work, and that the Dungeon Family is kinda fractured. But shyt, that happens all the time after a while in the music biz. :to:

that happens in life. but it was so real... so organic, you'd like for DF to have a happy ending where they're all kicking it and cool.
