But in all fairness, the blame doesn't lie soley on the Jamaican government. From the moment Jamaica gained Independence the IMF/World Bank has had their boot on our government officials necks. If anyone is interested there's a great doc, called Jamaica Life and Debt.



They basically set rules for what steps the government can and can't do. Unlike Greece we don't have ECB or Germany to bail us out.

I'd like to think under different circumstances our government would've took stakes in companies started by outsiders like how the Asians and Middle Easterners do it.

Chinese are investing heavy into Jamaica with little benefit to native Jamaicans, but it's an overreaction?

It is an overreaction. Right now, the Chinese are helping boost the economy (and profiting). We need to focus on employment and our debt levels. We have political power so at the end of the day we always have the threat to tax and nationalize.

Tbh Chinese Jamaicans have played an important role in the Country. Michael Lee Chin is half Chinese. At one point he and Bob Johnson were the only billionaires of African descent in the world (according to Wikipedia). Also VP records, which is the most important Jamaican music label by far is owned by Chinese Jamaican family. They also intermarry pretty commonly.
