the auto industry and tons of others made it clear the writing is on the wall

automation is coming - and the solution is for the workforce to modernize with it. a lot of people are romanticizing some "stick it to the billionaires' angle and like.. okay but none of what happened this week actually 'solved' the larger issue that's still marching along. if anything holding the country at financial gunpoint just accelerated the process too.

a lot of people in here had their bets hedged either way low key :troll: so its kinda whatever. but making these guys out to be champions that can relate to other union struggles doesn't work... they are not teachers. they are not amazon warehouse folks. they are not even the railway guys. not all unions are the same. and their 'fair' isn't the same by a long shot.

It’s the way they went about it. I posted earlier in the thread but save that “I’ll cripple you” nonsense for the meetings with the rest of their industry, not aimed at folks who just lost their homes in a hurricane

It’s a strike. It’s supposed to be confrontational and uncomfortable.

The cowardice of American workers is what has allowed companies to amass so much power at the expense of labor.

1. automation is still on their neck.
2. their workforce will need to transition to some sort of engineering/implementation to stay a clear value-add. see auto industry modernization
3. playing their hand of threatening the entire global supply chain only accelerated the appetite for automation as a whole.
4. many, many people were happy to watch this playout and were gonna be cool with any outcome lol... iykyk
5. no other union will ever have this kind of leverage ever again. even the air traffic controllers won't come close
6. other unions are out here asking for livable wages and literally safety. 60%+year over year is literally completely beyond anyone else's 'fair'

there's no victory lap here. just a can kicked down the road and more consolidation.

No matter what happens, X amount of dollars will be generated by the industry, they are only demanding a bigger piece of the pie. You should be rooting for them.

i'm indifferent :manny: automation at ports is coming, and i don't think people truly grasp what a next-gen port would even look like yet... but its not going to spring into existence *this time around*

it is likely that this is their last go round for raises and protections. so it is what it is. they got the gun and biden is not in a position to pump fake either.
i've been consistently saying that this strike does not eliminate the automation problem that's on their neck and doesn't bring other unions along with them because the leverage is unique and that bets were hedged from the start

someone doesn't agree hard enough and its off the dap races :dead:

when did i say it wasn't important. if anything i said this was in the oven for nearly 6 years - people were in here acting like this deadline wasn't meant to hit at the peak of election season.

and they're getting a bump no one else is because their leverage is at a level *no one else's will ever be* lol. if we're at the argue for the sake of arguing point in this now then find all the posts in here saying these guys can kick rocks
