big mel n tuaminator- yes it is remastered- that was the main reason why i copped- of course i will always show support to wu- plus liquid swords is one of the dopest albums ever released

description straight from Amazon:

Under development for months, Get On Down has finally unveiled the latest, painstakingly crafted volume in it's Wu-Tang reissue series, one which we hope will stand as a testament to this iconic and legendary piece of Wu-Tang history. We are proud to present GZA/Genius Liquid Swords in a two disc deluxe "Chess Box" edition. Housed in a sturdy wrapped hard board two piece box, this edition of Liquid Swords spans across 2 discs. Disc one contains the official album version while disc two contains the full RZA produced instrumentals, available for the first time ever as an official release. Both discs have been completely restored with remastered audio from the original source tapes and have truly never sounded better. As always with any deluxe Get On Down release, we have packaged this album with an array of extras, including; researched, in depth, full color liner notes with contributions from GZA himself, spanning across 20 pages, inner jackets and dust sleeves with memorable vintage artwork from the original release, and even a full wooden minature chess set, which can be played on the chess board printed and contained directly on the inner lining of the box. This is the Liquid Swords that both first time listeners and long-standing fans deserve.

It's not about bending to canon but instead about the recanonisation of 'great' music.

The tastemakers at Pitchfork are generally in their mid-late 30's - Beck and Pavement may as well be their Beatles and Bob Dylan. This is their chance to dictate taste, revel in nostalgia and force the power of popular culture away from the boomers.

:ehh: great point

Does it sound that much better re-mastered?? I never had both an original and remastered version of an album to my knowledge.

Nothing to discuss, it's a fukk it that word is dead.
It's a real testament to the greatness of hiphop pre Big/Pac deaths.

I like how cats shyt on pitchfork, when Source, Def Jam and all type of exec, media, corporate whatever has always been nerdy looking whiteboys and a mix of different brothers. The source was started by two harvard geeks who loved hiphop in the 80s.
Good point. You know imma go against the grain here and say that in general I actually find myself agreeing with Pitchfork more than XXL. From Shaheem Reid to Toure to Elliot Wilson hiphop journalists seem like str8 d!ckriders trying to get backstage passes & VIP booth tickets, critics removed from all that are surely more credible? Who cares about a critic anyway, we all got our own taste. It only becomes a problem for me when there's some pretentious conglomerate movement to force classics(GFID) & force legends(Wayne) & that unfortunately almost always comes from within ''our culture.''

How can you review an album that came out in 1996 B? What's next? A review of The Godfather movies? It's ridiculous proposition to review an album that most heads already hold in classic status anyway. How about these hipsters try and make the right calls on albums coming out today. I guarantee this album doesn't get a perfect 10 from these jerkoffs back in 1996.

fukking Hipsters.

When they review reissues, it's usually a mixture of reviewing the original album and reviewing the quality of the reissue. If this wasn't remastered, didn't have new liner notes, etc, it might not have gotten a 10 from them.

And it's definitely ridiculous from the standpoint of a hip-hop fan, but they aren't a hip-hop publication. Their focus is indie-pop, and the culture that has emerged around it, and so they extend their reviews to whatever is gaining credibility in that particular demographic, since they are completely aware that in order to remain tastemakers and profitable, they need to concede to popular opinion to a certain extent.

Their hip-hop reviews are usually laughable. I think Take Care got over a 9, which makes sense- it's a perfect album for suburban, middle-class white people with a hipster bent.

well. I mean, I would take pitchfork more seriously than e.g. the grammys when it comes to rap

I don't think they're inauthentic, the problem is they have an aesthetic and an attitude towards new rap music that's completely annoying to me... they basically overrate the Gucci Manes and Waka Flockas of the world on one end and overrate the Action Bronsons and Lil Bs on the other. What happened to just rating normal rappers highly?

so you're right, it's good to have people who just shoot from the hip about what they think

I just disagree with their whole conception of what's good or what's not when it comes to hip hop

and--here's the thing--pitchfork has been annoying the fukk out of people forever in every genre. Being edgy and holier-than-thou is just their style. So that plays into it too
