Not news. Any re-release even worth a quarter of a shyt and canonized is going to get something in the high 9s to a 10. This is just standard Pitchfork operating procedure.

I think you're right... Looked up an early 90s indie rock re-release and it's rated 9.6

lol they seem so supercilious but they bend to the canon in the end

It's not about bending to canon but instead about the recanonisation of 'great' music.

The tastemakers at Pitchfork are generally in their mid-late 30's - Beck and Pavement may as well be their Beatles and Bob Dylan. This is their chance to dictate taste, revel in nostalgia and force the power of popular culture away from the boomers.

Anyway, Liquid Swords is a great album. Fully deserving of a 10 - their review is awful though, and steeped in nostalgia. It doesn't really discuss the album so much as the context of the album.

How can you review an album that came out in 1996 B? What's next? A review of The Godfather movies? It's ridiculous proposition to review an album that most heads already hold in classic status anyway. How about these hipsters try and make the right calls on albums coming out today. I guarantee this album doesn't get a perfect 10 from these jerkoffs back in 1996.

fukking Hipsters.

pitchfork broadened out after it won the hipster internet wars and wanted to get more cred and mainstream money.

dudes is frauds, if pitchfork was reviewing albums back then they woulda prolly called it "annoyingly mundane & boring". The album which drags along suffers from too many features, the bland production on I Gotcha back sounds like a Return to the 36 Chambers throwaway. The Rza clearly needs to take some time off.

Or some dumb shyt like that

I hate these ppl, man
