I don't listen to her music, but I visit different music websites. I remember seeing Gaga almost always at number one as the most played artist.
Most played artist by who? Are you talking chart success? Gaga and Adele both had a #1 song from their last albums. Gaga also had a #3 charting song. Adele also had a #2 charting song. When it comes to the charts they're pretty much the same. So what else would factor into Gaga's popularity?

The point I was making with using the example in the first place was that popularity and record sales don't go hand in hand. Seeing her on an MTV list, seeing her name or face pop in entertainment news when not even searching for her are also reasons why I think she's popular. In addition, she seems to make headlines and is discussed for whatever she does. Whether it's showing up on a red carpet wearing a meat dress, her making outlandish comments, announcing a collabo, her videos, etc.

So to you, visibility=popularity?

Visibility is a part of being popular. Are you arguing that she's not popular?

No, of course not. She's visible...and sold 2 milly of this last album. I don't know, it just seems odd to me to try and really say she's more popular than a woman that is going to have a diamond selling album by the end of the year. A woman with an album that has set more records than I can even think of. Who not only had the best selling album of last year, but has the best selling album of this year as well.

I'm hearing all these attempts to try and define popularity as being something besides how many people are willing to go out and buy your album and it's really just not making sense. Al the other stuff being talked about isn't popularity, it's press and that meaningless word "buzz". If people fukk with your music, if they like you as an artist they'll buy your shyt. Downloading age or not, the more people fukk with your music and like you as an artist, the more you'll sell, the more popular you are. I don't get the point in trying to make up these imaginary scenarios or exceptions. It's pretty simple.

Ok, if popularity is really about selling records, then explain how:

Drake sells not only more than Jay+Kanye's "Watch The Throne", but Beyonce's last album also.

Wayne sells more than both of those albums.

A record sale is nothing more than what it implies, a sale. Outside of that, a person liking that particular album or song is all else that can be gathered from a record sale.

So your saying random opinion is a better way to judge than sales? Wayne and drake are probably more popular than jay and Wayne right now... Not saying the throne isn't popular but to be the only two rappers besides em going multiplat/ plat is a big deal .

Random opinion? Someone asked "Why do you think Gaga is popular"? Which was asking for my opinion of her popularity. To actually measure popularity isn't as simple as defining it terms of visibility and sales. There's various factors involved in measuring popularity more so than just sales and airplay.

Wayne and Drake are popular. In fact, two of the most popular rappers out. But they as solo artists sold more than the duo of Jay and Kanye. Are Wayne and Drake as solo artists more popular than Jay and Kanye combined because their solo albums sold more than Jay and Kanye's collabo album?

Another reason why record sales aren't a barometer for popularity is because artists can gain popularity before they ever release retail albums. Drake was popular (although not as popularity) before he ever released a retail album. He blew up off of a mixtape. He was collaborating with artists like Mary J. Blige, Jay Z, and Alicia Keys before selling millions.

Because Drake and Wayne are more popular than Jay and Kanye. Where were you trying to go with that exactly?

It relates because people are trying to say that because Jeezy sold more (based solely Ross's two weeks in comparison to Jeezy's first two weeks) that Jeezy is more popular.
