The way I see it let your game do the talking. Larry Bird was put on the pedestal of being the great white hype before he played one nba game. Thing is he didn't care because he wanted to play ball. He let his game speak for itself and that's what people will ultimately judge Jeremy by.

For those that agree with him: yall don't think the reason people doubted his ability to live up to that contract was because he was an undrafted player who earned it off of an ~8 week performance out of nowhere??? :comeon:

Bird was actually "racist" against his fellow white men because he says that he used to feel disrespected when the opposing team would put a white guy on him.

This is like the 100 time he's talked about race it's not exactly rocket science to see players usually don't get paid like him off the stretch he had . Not to mention he already said himself teams didn't offer contracts because the Knicks said they would match anything now it's cause they feared his Asianess ? Houston cut him I guess cause they were racist
:wtb: 90% of the problem other players have with Lin is the attention he received . Harden actually performed for his career and people said he was greedy for wanting the max , Lin had a phenomenal 9 game stretch gets big deal and people say the Knicks are being cheap .

I'm saying everyone knew what the deal was in terms of $$$$ and marketing. You can't tell me it wasnt deliberate for ESPN to put cameras in every Asian restaurant around NYC to show them watching the games, or to pan to random Asians in the crowd everytime he scored.

It was corny and borderline insulting race baiting.

Like I said, you can't have it both ways. You can't use your race to your extreme financial advantage one month(endorsements, book deals, etc), then cry about it the next.

And most ppl dont doubt this dude b/c he himself is Asian, they doubt him b/c him being Asian and having a few good games has obviously skyrocketed him way too fast.....it's up to him to prove whether he's worthy or not. Whatever ur race is, you made the NBA so you obviously dont suck.

But you can't claim the Miami Heat or other teams clamping down on you is b/c ur Asian....it's because you've been overly hyped and they're not gonna be embarrassed by anyone that's been overhyped.....white, black or whatever. You've made more money than players who are BETTER THAN YOU. Of course they're gonna come at you harder.

great posting fellas.

him being asian makes things worst but the hype & money is moreso the reason why he gets the clamps put on him. i cant believe that theres so many people in here that cant see this.

I'm a competitor. I don't want to be embarrassed by anybody on the court regardless of their race. I'm sure some dudes feel that way about him being Asian, but that is a scrub mentality if they only care about being embarrassed because he is Asian.

Well yea but according to this thread, Lin and others in here think you're calling that contract "crazy" because he's Asian-American.

I think that's bullshyt.
Lin's comment was not related to the Knicks, the Rockets or that contract. It was about basketball and how he gets treated on the court and "how its been his whole life".

The writer of the article and the threadstarter were being a little bit misleading.

Larry Bird said he used to feel like it was a slap in the face when coaches had white dudes guarding him.

Is this supposed to be new now?

That's because Larry wanted the respect of being the best and somebody placing a white guy on you meant they didn't take you seriously.

Also when Isaiah thomas called Larry out for getting attention because he was white, Larry was pissed at isaiah for interfering with his preparations for playoffs.

He has a point about when he mentions people not wanting to be embarrassed by an Asian kid. You're bullshyttin' if you disagree...

I disagree, I'm sorry but the nba is a professional league, they are not a high school or college atmosphere. NBA players go all over the world, see all races of people and face different ethnicities of competition all the time. I find it very hard to believe that they go extra hard against lin JUST because he's asian. I do believe they see a person who was hyped beyond belief and want to do their best to stop that player. I don't see how it's any different from any other player that gets all star treatment, other players are going to respect you and go after you to embarrass you. That's just competition and how the game is played. Look at lebron and tell me that people don't try to go after him and embarrass him or kobe, the competition does their best to one up these elite players and they have been in the league for years with more consistent elite production.

It's Lin's job to recognize that they are going harder against him but if his game was as good as it's being hyped he would still do well even with knowing that they are trying to embarrass him. Knowing the competition is coming after you but still succeeding or exceeding expectation on the court is what makes you elite. That type of competition is what separates the consistent all-stars from your average joe nba players.

Lin is misguided in using his race as mask for the lack production on the court and not meeting the hype of his name.
