Actually I took a look at the best Engineering schools in the country and started applications. Came down to Cornell and GT. GT didn't want an essay, so I applied during a weekend visit there.

And while the Big 10 may have overall stronger engineering programs than GT....we're still ranked the highest overall. Still got mad love and respect for Illinois, Michigan, and Purdue engineering though. PSU too.

But still...... :umad:

And don't get  at me. USNWR has big time weight. You kidding yourself if you don't know this. Trust me, it does.

It has weight because of how long it's been around, but it's highly criticized. Schools and administrators hate it, but they know high school students read it to they cater to that.

Schools that WUSTL were sending out apps to kids they knew they wouldn't accept just so they would have a lower acceptance rate. But I would agree that Tech has a better engineering program than the Big 10 schools, but it's really just tiers and Tech, Michigan and Illinois all sit in the same tier with schools like Cornell (and schools no one knows about like RPI).

BY THE WAY, tell me this Rutgers shyt isn't true :sadcam: I'd take Tech any day before Rutgers.

Yup. Maryland is clearly the class of this move.

:heh:

Welp, no more of a reason for there to be any sort of conference pride now.

*Adjusts Michigan snap back* *Plays the fight song*

:snoop: Now when I come home I'm going to have to deal with these dudes in Jersey talking about being in the Big 10.

You know it, Bowden took top players from Maryland for almost 20 years.

Before that, it was Paterno. Impactful players too.

That's because no one wanted to stay here and play. This area of the country treats football (below the NFL level) as some third tier sport. I've seen bigger crowds at lacrosse & soccer matches than HS football. Outside of Dunbar, Oxon Hill and Woodbridge, you couldn't pay me to go watch any other HS football teams in this area. Can you blame them for hauling ass out the area to play ball?? Y'all got Diggs and that's probably your best recruit in a decade

in what world??? :ld:

In reality.

It's been this way for years, but if MD closes the borders around the DMV, they'll be a Top 15 program.

The problem has always been the perception of the program and its limited budget. This move takes care of the limited budget aspect of things and now, they'll have the money to hire the coach they want, not just the one they can afford. When, not if, they fire Randy Edsall, they'll be able to look someone like Kevin Sumlin, or Kirby Smart dead in the face and say, "Name your price." You hire someone like that and have the budget to attain top-notch assistants, a recruiting budget on par with Ohio State's and the facility upgrades that will come of this, then the perception of the program will change once they start winning.

All in all, if they ever wanted to be a power in college football, they had to make this move.
