I said it's understandable to some extent. When Priest's run ended he left the character in a really bad spot. T'Challa was very isolated and was dying of a brain tumor.
Hudlin's first issues were just supposed to be a mini series and halfway through the editors decided to turn it into an ongoing series.
Even Priest himself said he understood Hudlin rebooting things.
Also for the record Hudlin didn't negate everything Priest did, he changed some things and kept other things in place.
It's both him and the people in charge. A lot of people didn't like Priest for things he did when he was an editor. Priest got sick of only being offered books with Black lead characters and getting jerked around by editors (like McDuffie was).
Priest was going to do that same thing, he just couldn't get the editors to sign off on it. It was an idea that had been batted about over the years. Even in that Earth X story they married those characters.
Hudlin just handled it poorly, shyt came across rushed as hell. The way Priest wrote the couple was actually great. Hell the way McDuffie wrote the couple was great too.
Hudlin's work on the book was a mixed bag, some stuff was kind of boring while other stuff was fun/funny. The arc with Luke Cage, The Fantastic Four stuff, and Hudlin's last two stories with the character were enjoyable as hell.
It always bugged me out though how some people hated Hudlin's first arc on the book but loved the animated series when it's the exact same story.
