Him: Yeah, you ask a member, fill out an application, and it for a second, smiled and said "somebody will be in touch with you soon" before waving goodbye and gently grasping my right forearm.
Be careful bruh lol...

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Yesterday while I was at work I dealt with a customer (an older breh who was likely between late 60's early 70's) who had on a bright blue winter cap with the masonic compass, square, and "G" symbol on it.

I already know about the "Ask one to be one" rule, so I figured "fukk it" and asked about it as slickly as possible.

Me: So, how does one become a "member"? :jbhmm:

Old Dude: (Pausing for a moment before he caught on) Well, you gotta ask one first :skip:

Me: Hmmm

Him: Yeah, you ask a member, fill out an application, and the process goes from there. I've been a member since 1975 :youngsabo:

Me: Really? :ohhh:

Him: Yep, great thing to be a part of.

Me: That's what I've heard.

Him: You got a card? Write down your name and number.

I grabbed a piece of paper, wrote down my name and phone number and handed it to him. He scanned it for a second, smiled and said "somebody will be in touch with you soon" before waving goodbye and gently grasping my right forearm.

My question is, can I actually expect anything to come from this? Or could he just brush me off like "Yeah, alright lil nikka :mjpls:"?

I don't have connections or anything like that to "solidify" me in a sense. I'm just a nobody trying to crawl out of the sewer and finally reach the surface :mjcry:
I'll try to clear up as much as I can for everyone in here cause the thoughts are wild as shyt...

First off, yea he'll probably call you. I can tell you right now the requirements, cause it's not a secret. I think they have them on their website... Actually....

Freemasonry welcomes men of every country, religion, race, age, income, education, and opinion. However, to join Freemasonry, one must meet the following qualifications:
  • Be a male at least 18 years of age (the minimum age varies in some jurisdictions, sometimes up to 21)
  • Believe in the existence of a Supreme Being, although Freemasonry is not concerned with theological distinctions or particular religious beliefs
  • Be of good moral character
  • Be motivated to join for reasons unrelated to personal gain or profit
  • Your decision to apply is based on your own “free will and accord”
  • Be prompted by a favorable opinion of Freemasonry
  • Be desirous of earning knowledge and willing to conform to the ancient usages and customs of the fraternity

Now what does this actually mean in real life... He'll call you and want to see what you're about. You'll first thing, it's not a frat and it's not a social club. They predate both and don't ever refer to themselves like that. It's a group of men, who all believe in living their life a certain way, based on the principles of freemasons in the bible. The symbols and signs represent certain things that relate to living your life upright, just, and righteous. You're supposed to be a good man, no felonies, not in debt, take care of your family, your wife even has to ok it because you can't be lying to your family to be here, you got to put in work in your community, be a model so when someone says "that's a mason" it comes with an idea and a standard.

Once you hear about what they about, and want to learn more, maybe he'll invite you to an event. Get you around the brothers, see if they like you, see if you like them. Cause they all will decide. If all that's a go, you fill out paperwork, you get a background check (no felonies), they'll test you to make sure you have some sort of intelligence and dedication, and then vote to see if you can start being a mason.

Anything after that, I can't tell you about. But Masons aren't hidden. If you have a good lodge, you might pay $20 a month in dues. You do food drives, you feed the homeless and eldery on holidays, you throw parties for the kids/neighborhood/city. Every lodge has a jurisdiction so it's usually going to be area you live around, so you get known. Oh they do this, that and this. Yes you rent out the lodge for events, parties, your own events.. You only need one room in the place for the temple, you just supposed to let the rest go to waste? How you think they fund the operation to do good for the community? Yea throw Tasha's party here. We got a kitchen and the brothers will work for you for free. Among other ways to fund raise.

You still got fun shyt you do with the brothers. You're still regular people. Link up, football sunday's, superbowl parties, bbq's.... it's not the mason's lodge. It's YOUR lodge. Everyone has a key. Come there and sleep if you need to. Cause you're a stand up man so I know you gonna leave it how you found it and not steal and not......

It's a bunch of brothers trying to hang out and give back. Trust me, they got young brehs in every lodge. Every year there's a list of people trying to come in. Somebody son, somebody cousin, somebody somebody.. Less than 10 get selected a year. Nobody hiding. They got license plates and jackets and hats and shyt. You carry around a card. This ain't 1754 anymore. Yes A LOT of rich and powerful people are Masons. Why? Cause it's the largest "fraternity" in the world. Literally. So there's a lot of everyone in there. It's not like the Skull & Bones or some elite, truly hidden secret society. Motherfukkers got tshirts

Lol

These organizations didn't update with the times and all the secrecy didn't help them in the end. If they had a modern version of this kind of club for like minded men I'd be down.
The modern version is frats. They do everything masons do, but cut out the symbolism and rituals of the past. But the same way to mason's will see each other and look out. Is the same way two Q's will. Q's do a food drive, Masons do a food drive. Q's look out on a job hookup, Masons look out. Q's get together to celebrate and party, Masons get out to celebrate and party

It's the same shyt. People freak out about freemasons because what they did 200 years ago

Feel free to ask anything else

The age thing is a reason i didnt get involved. It was all 55+ at the lodge i visited.

Besides being active in the community and having people you can ask for help within the lodge it aint much. You'll also have to get involved with charity and attending events to help. I got the feeling this is more of a retired mans type of thing.

My coworker got the boot after 20+ years because he couldnt attend events and meetings more often. Told him to kick rocks until he has time to show up for regular ass things. He would show up for confirmation events of new members to eat :russ: but was tired of the regular shyt.
Every lodge has young brehs and bring in more every year. They just don't let a lot of people in every year so by the time 40 young brehs come in, it's 5-10 years later.

Also your coworker is lying. You can't get kicked out for that. Not at day one or 20 years. As long as you pay your dues, you don't ever have to show up for anything. This is mainly to allow you to live your life and never let this become a burden. Put in what you want. Confirmation events happen 3 times a year.. There's way more food there. shyt you can pull up and eat food damn near every week.

Mans was definitely lying

It all sounds nice, but never saw how it would benefit me, same thing as frats in college, so I never bothered with either

Both are about networking. You gonna look out for somebody in the same gang as you right? Especially over an outsider

A lodge of the Saints John of Jerusalem
Nah but seriously, I knew an OLD Mason like damn near 90. They need to get younger (40 and under members), too many old people.
The make up of a lodge really depends on the community in which it resides. Most lodges usually take on the demographics of its community. If you live in a decent sized to big city, the lodge will be more diverse regarding age and race; unless it's a Prince Hall lodge, then more than likely it will be almost all black but with varying ages. There's more younger people joining because they're seeing through the conspiracy bullshyt.

There was an all black masonic lodge in Kansas City, Missouri in the 90's. It might still be there.

They paid for the funeral of a girl that got shot, that I went to high school with, around '98.

That's my sole interaction with masons. :yeshrug:
