You need to find a way to use your life as an example to prove racists like him wrong. This was a "turn the other cheek" situation where you respond tactfully and dismissively to his opinion. You kind of proved him right by what you did. For future reference, attack the argument, not the person. What you did was Trump status. Child's play.

Hopefully when the OP's little brother reaches your age, he too will have a more mature view of the world around him.
My theory addresses the younger/older brother dynamic because younger brother generally look up to their older brothers. They were raised by the same parents, lived in the same household in the same neighborhood, yet their lives and experiences were dramatically different. maybe parenting is a major factor, after failing with the OP, maybe the parents adjusted their parenting and did a better job with the younger sibling, maybe they over compensated and as a result created an atmosphere that laid the foundation for the younger brother's problematic beliefs.
What we do know for sure is that the younger brother grew up watching his older brother put the family through hell and almost get charged as an adult at the age of 17 for breaking into someone's home, I think it's safe to imagine that a younger brother witnessing his older brother doing these things would go to great lengths to avoid going down the same path as his older brother, even if that means doing the exact opposite of everything his brother does, e.g. if all of big brother's friends are Black, maybe I need to hang around white people, if big brother does drugs and gets bad grades, I need to study more and stay sober.
I do believe the little brother has a poor opinion of his older brother based on all the years the older brother spent setting a terrible example, those things will persist in the younger brother's mind even if the older brother "changed" two years ago. It's a simple formula:
2 years of changed brother < 10+ years of trouble maker brother.
These are just my opinions, I might be totally wrong in my assumptions and that's fine.
What's established is that whatever information the OP was trying to get through to the younger brother wasn't effective which is why he tried an alternative method of using physical violence. Maybe the OP's brother is an understanding person but I wouldn't give any of my time to listening to information from a person who would hit me if he gets frustrated while delivering that information.

Let that whole story marinate and clearly OP hasn't grown much for reasons already given in this thread. I understand the frustration but you don't handle your blood like that off the kid's opinion on life.
He should apologize and talk the shyt out otherwise both sides lost.
