I appreciate the tag Crumple :salute:

I have not listened to this album, or any Jeezy to be honest. Not for any reason really, just never got on my radar I guess. Going through the review and responses gives me a good reason to go look for it and give it a shot, especially since my crazy backlog of "finally going to listen to this album" albums is cleared out for the first time in years

Ya man. I always liked Jeezy but just never gave any of his albums a thorough listen. Since I heard it was so well mixed I bought it on CD. The whole vibe and everything about TM101 is incredible. I feel he lead Hip Hop that year. Even though I didn't check for it when it dropped - it sold millions. You can tell his intent was to lead Hip Hop right. And Jay Z was around him alot then as well. I'm certain Jay Z was very involved with it in the background.

TM104 is his second best album, imo. I know I'm in the vast minority with that opinion but that's a seriously slept on project.

Trappin' Ain't Dead is a must listen from his mixtapes.

I'll check for those. Thank you.

If you’re looking for superiorly mixed albums for reference you should look to DJ Quik for notes.

Yes to all of this.

Okay I read what you wrote. You said this about adlibs:

"Going in on Adlibs dont require THAT much extra work brodie. Especially if the adlibs are static. U can plug them shyts in."

That freaked me out because personally I find them a challenge. Check this.

I practice my vocals well before I hit the booth. Then the adlibs. Fine, fun and simple enough.

Now - when I mix vocal tracks - the main vocals - easy enough. The adlibs sometimes fix parts where I messed the main vocals up.
But going through the vocals - and adlibs and being the obsessive person i am - it takes well over an hour of focused work to get them right. And maybe re-recording them.

If you are talking about plugging them in - as in just using part of the mains and doubling them up - that's easier work. To be creative with adlibs I find hard - (And Jeezy goes IN on the adlibs - sidenote music aside the production on this album is 10/10 - which is hard/rare in the rap world)

AND I've noticed after 2008ish tonnes of rappers stopped recording adlibs which I find lazy. Especially alot of older rappers.

That is my part - can see my view on this and adlibs?

I have several Reference Mix CDs. I have heard about DJ Quick's incredible and clean mixes for years. Also I have seen videos of him mixing on youtube. Can you recommend his top 3 albums ever - more mix wise than music but still dope musically?

Yea I can see ur view. The reason I said what I said about Jeezy is that he has signature Adlibs. So that’s why I’m pretty sure he just plugs em in where he wants sometimes. Plenty of songs from the 90s that don’t got a bunch of Adlibs. Has nothing to do with laziness. Moreso to do with what the song requires. Some songs require Adlibs. Some dont. Ur talking about Adlibs and not doubles am I right? Cause that’s a different story all together.

Thank you. Yeah I see what you mean Jeezy's signature "Yeeaaahh" and "That's right" etc - yes I think I meant double ups. Where you rap the exact same lyrics over and on top - but a little different. The creative nuances - are double ups that? The exact lyrics over? I knew the term double ups - but I always interchanged that term as adlibs.

So the different story is for Double ups - what I meant here?

Yes, that's what I meant. My bad.

So with double ups - do you find those to be more work in general - recording/mixing them?
