Breh explain to me how you take Giannis out the top 5, say AD is borderline top 5, and then throw out a bunch of names that do not have a better resume than AD.
I didn't take Giannis out the Top 5, I said Giannis is after Bron/Durant/Kawhi/Steph...
AD is borderline Top 5 because there are too many names you can argue ahead of him. People are shoehorning him into Top 5 because Steph and KD didn't play this year, and because people get aggy on anything Bron-related so they'll gas the fact that he leads the team in most stats...
Lets start with all of the names I mentioned, leaving out the quartet who clearly and obviously have significantly stronger resumes than AD:
•Giannis has done more as a #1 than AD. We can dance all day about the lack of structure AD had in Nola, but he missed the playoffs in 5 of 7 years. Iverson and Garnett weren't exactly working with the best run organizations and they won more---->AD to this point has proven to be more of a "talent" than a winning basketball player...
•Jokic doesn't have a better resume than AD, but has proven to be more of a winner, two playoff appearances thru Y5 and a trip to the WCF...
•Luka doesn't have a better resume but is probably better thru two years than AD was...
•Dame and AD are from the same class of 2012 and to this point you could probably call them a wash. I'm not a big fan of Dame but post-Aldridge, he hasnt exactly been stocked with supreme talent, yet he's in the playoffs every year. Compared to Anthony Davis, that means something...
•Butler doesn't have a better resume than AD but there is something to the fact of, every time Butler leaves somewhere, team goes to shambles, and when he showed up in his last two spots, team instantly becomes better; its LeBron-lite. AD hasnt shown that kind of gravity...
•Harden clearly has a better resume than AD, but its his playoff failures that make it a conversation...
Note, I didnt say any of these guys were definitively better than AD except Giannis, my point is you can make the case for them all. AD can be considered Top 5 if you are evaluating something else, but i value winning basketball players. Everybody has a different style, i dont care what your style is if it means you win at a higher level consistently...
For me, I think its clear, he's a Top 5 "talent" but not a Top 5 lock...
