yeah of course our ancestors had plenty of amazing qualities. but the movies they make are usually just highlighting the act of slavery . they usually don't focus on the people in a real way.
But the difference between what you're saying and roots is that the show literally gives a back story to life in Africa. You see the hierarchy, you see kunta talking about not wanting to go to school in Timbuktu and learning to become a warrior. The dignity of the African, the intellect, the hierarchy of their society not the backwards idiots that we are taught that Africans were before the white man. It's amazing how this part is totally overlooked.

The roots remake was trash.

I mostly saw white people with whips, black people getting beat, raped, black dudes c00ning to see who can make massa the most money, pleading massa please massa please, etc.

I don't think a roots remake was necessary. If they really wanted to show roots than they should've just played the reruns.

Nat Turner story should really be the last of this slavery stuff when it comes to movies/tv shows.

We don't need another django or roots.

There was a time when all of this was necessary, but now we got more than enough content of that. Plus some of these slavery films have no real redeeming quality to them. Just one big ass whooping fest lead by white people.:francis:

D'Jango Unchained was a fantasy of would we WISHED had happened to white people. Nat Turner did NOT have a happy ending at all, and actually made matters worst in legislation against slaves.

Just admit you want a fantasy Utopian black experience in the 1800's that NEVER existed. Or you want to sweep the cruelty of slavery under the rug and KEEP generations under you ignorant to the horrific truths about this country.

Will Packer ain't letting that shyt slide.

'Roots' producer Will Packer addresses Snoop Dogg criticism, others

Will Packer expected critics to pile on following the debut of the "Roots" remake, and he's got a response for them, including rapper Snoop Dogg.

The rapper posted a profanity-laced Instagram video that lambasted the miniseries for debuting on Memorial Day and depicting the lives of black American slaves. Of all his work, Packer said the miniseries has been the most heavily criticized. His other work includes "Ride Along" and "Ride Along 2," "Think Like a Man," "Think Like a Man 2" and "the Perfect Guy."

“They’re uncomfortable revisiting the reality of that time,” Packer said. “I understand it. But at the same time, I vehemently disagree.”
When asked about Snoop's position, which went viral Monday, Packer said the rapper was entitled to his opinion.

“I think that while I certainly don’t judge Snoop at all because I’m very flawed myself, I just think the irony of having him saying and using the n-word, saying, ‘A real n-word like me wouldn’t watch this," Packer said. "I couldn’t help but think there’s a ghost of some horrendous slave owner that is smiling and smirking as he watches this black man say that and call himself that …I think that slave owner probably said, ‘Preach. I agree.’”

Packer believes in the power of being uncomfortable.

"I don’t think we should get too comfortable as a country, as a society or as a race of people," Packer said. "I think this is a story that’s important enough it should be told in repeated ways."

Nah everything you saying is bullsh!t.

Stop reaching for stuff that ain't there.:camby:

A movie made by Quentin Tarantino is supposed to be a fatasy of what black people wanted to happen to white people.:mjlol:

Nat Turner led a rebellion that led his people to freedom. An actual portrayal of black people not being looked upon as weak or inferior during slavery.:stopitslime:

This is why - Do new Texas textbooks whitewash slavery and segregation?

Texas as a state trying to change textbooks to pretend slavery never happened. They're trying so hard to pretend bury the dirt that was done in this country that I don't mind them dropping movies explaining the history. You see how some of these dummies on the internet talking about how the holocaust never happened. Snoop is fine to say we need to make more uplifting movies, but fukk not showing them the truth.

Relying on Hollywood & school books to teach our kids about slavery is exactly what is wrong in our community. Jews don't rely on Hollywood to tell their story, it's just another avenue for them. We don't need remakes or more slavery films, we can always just go back and look at the mass quantity we have now.

So where do you suggest our kids learn about slavery? Let's be honest most black parents are not going to sit their kids down every night and teach you hem about slavery school and Hollywood are the most practical avenues. Thank god for programs like roots that show slavery in such gritty detail.
they're now calling slavery "indentured servitude" and saying it wasn't "that" bad in our children's textbooks. Without films like roots how would our kids be reinforced with this info?

them Jews will remind you every year of why they need Israel and why they needed reparations fym. If any group should be complaining about movies depicting them as victims it's Jews and maybe Muslims. But alas they understand the importance of people remembering your oppression.

One good thing is that they pronounced Kinte right on the show. It's KEEN-teh. Cacs butcher African words, but the African on the program did it justice :obama:

The worst thing about the stance of not telling these stories is that you have whites everywhere that really do want to sweep this stuff under a rug. I almost slapped a dude today for saying "another Roots. Just another reminder to everyone that whites WERE evil. Isn't there anything else to tell in history" My reply was, hard to find any history of this country where there wasn't evil being performed by whites. Like it or not, these people need to be reminded and the world shown, and we need to remind ourselves instead of being passive and comfortable. It irks me everytime that the Holocaust is considered the end all, be all of suffering by whites. You never hear them say, that was 70 years ago get over it. You see the utmost respect given to any surviving victims or even to their families. Contrast that with how blacks are treated in the same context of an institution that went on for centuries. We should just get over it and not remind them of it. If you're taking that we were docile or subservient from the new Roots movie, you're falling for the same trap Snoop is. They want you to forget. They don't want to believe there's a legacy. Of course there are other stories of black people. Make those too, but for whatever reason, there's a huge segment of White Americans that think slavery wasn't a big deal and that millions were killed, raped, mamed, experimented on, etc.
