So I must be around a dozen full listens of the album.Aight, I sat with it. This is fire
I'll go in more details later
Even though several songs caught my ear immediately, others took a little bit of time, like Louphoria or Garden Lady. They're a vibe but a particular one and I had to be in the right mindset to savor them completely.
Blue Billy, Defibrillator and the final two punches combo Curtains and Lee & Lovie hit me right away
I'm ending up liking the entire thing, and even my least favorite song Ol' Ass Kendrick is not bad by any means, it just doesn't do much for me. I respect it though and there are still some moments that I like a lot.
It's interesting because some songs I feel like could insert themselves right into Blkswn, others would fit perfectly in Noir... Overall, there is a wide array of atmospheres and different moods that reflect the styles of music he's been providing for years now. You got the muddy, slower and darker tracks, the upbeat dancing jams and the powerful, soulful songs... And he does it all in the way that only he can, with a unique musical identity. The entire album is rich asf musically, it's stacked with good stuff.
A lot of times he surprises you with what he does on a track, which is good, and re-listening to it you realize it's really that Smino signature.
I might be underrating his lyricism too, because just like for his previous albums, I get more out of what he's saying with every listen. The pimp shyt he says is
Features all did a great job. J Cole is a killer feature Everytime I hear him he gets better. Doecchi was excellent too.
I don't stress her, I just stretch her~~
