That's why I literally watch Being Mary Jane, just about the only television show I watch on TV. It's written, directed, produced, and the show runner are a black married couple. And they are also on BET (say what you will about them). It's a damn good show that gets over looked for Emmys but they don't care, they just keep making black content.

The first season was more to draw the female audience in and get them hooked. I notice that the 2nd season is more male friendly in the POV of the plot and how it's directed. Good that Mary Jane is not shown as a "Strong Independent Woman That Can Do It All On Her Own". Some reality checks are present so it's not a show for the sister looking for that blind "Mo'nique" style "YOU GO GRRRRL" boost of false confidence in her life.

It's somewhat based on Mara Brock Akil's early experiences working in the writers room of some television shows.

I'm not with the whole shucking and jiving, Taraji is embarrassing herself. She's a 40+ year old bird.

This seems like the perfect role for the both of them...

DO WE BELIEVE IT? Real-Life WAR At EMPIRE -- Taraji P. Henson & Terrence Howard ALLEGEDLY Clashing On

Within all this rumor and speculation, it's also being alleged that "Empire" producers think tension between Taraji and Terrence will “prompt some amazing, volatile scenes between them. The animosity is working to the show’s advantage.”#Messy

I've been watching ants lately, they don't have many distractions so they build their community non stop and fiercely attack anything they perceive to be a threat.

I later introduced a foreign substance (white sugar) and they went crazy trying to gather as much as they could for the Queen.

She's a prime example of shucking and jiving and it's embarrassing.

On a side note: Lee Daniels isn't even the main director, he's just a supervising producer. Danny Strong, who is white, is the co-creator, producer, and director, and the show runner is a lesbian white woman. They merely employ black people. :mjpls:

What I don't understand is how they know what their exact role is at that particular moment with so much going on. They don't have a brain after all they communicate with pheromones. Same question with bees. If they can cooperate I can't see why Black people can't. I think the problem is we all don't speak the same "language". Seems like a Tower of Babel dilemma where White people have somehow since slavery ended managed to brainwash us into not being able to properly communicate with each other regarding topics beyond Sports, Music, Food, Movies and other Mundane shyt.

Have you ever observed the difference between two Brothers talking about NBA with each other then if the topic switches to something that actually matters - Like how to lower your auto insurance premium - There is stuttering, uhhhs ahhhs, this look:

nick-young-confused-face-300x256.png

And if one dude knows and the other does not he'll be explaining and the other brother will still have that look on his face. But if a White friend comes by and says IN SOME CASES THE ALMOST EXACT SAME THING he will all of a sudden magically understand??? Call me a conspiracy theorist but something is amiss here.

i agree with her. empire serves multiple purposes. definitely provides yet another distraction, but it also plays into the stereotypes that have been plaguing blacks for years.

cookie is the definition of a "sapphire" caricature. taken from this thread

http://www.thecoli.com/threads/iden...s-brutes-c00ns-toms-and-sapphires-etc.221290/

The Sapphire Caricature portrays black women as rude, loud, malicious, stubborn, and overbearing.1 This is the Angry Black Woman (ABW) popularized in the cinema and on television. She is tart-tongued and emasculating, one hand on a hip and the other pointing and jabbing (or arms akimbo), violently and rhythmically rocking her head, mocking African American men for offenses ranging from being unemployed to sexually pursuing white women. She is a shrill nagger with irrational states of anger and indignation and is often mean-spirited and abusive. Although African American men are her primary targets, she has venom for anyone who insults or disrespects her. The Sapphire's desire to dominate and her hyper-sensitivity to injustices make her a perpetual complainer, but she does not criticize to improve things; rather, she criticizes because she is unendingly bitter and wishes that unhappiness on others. The Sapphire Caricature is a harsh portrayal of African American women, but it is more than that; it is a social control mechanism that is employed to punish black women who violate the societal norms that encourage them to be passive, servile, non-threatening, and unseen.

Here's another telling paragraph from that thread

Ignorance of the hatred and degradation associated with this and other anti-Black imagery was a theme Spike Lee explored in his film, Bamboozled (2000). A Black television executive, hoping to get fired from his job, pitches the idea of a new television show based on the old Black minstrel shows. Much to his horror, the show is not only approved, but becomes a huge hit. Even one of the Black street performers recruited to star in the show in blackface is seemingly oblivious to the imagery, seeing only his chance to be a big star. Ignorance about the racial history of this stereotype clearly cuts across racial lines.

It will probably get cancelled by the fourth season. It's got too much going on and every season they gotta out live first. It is a comedy, I watched the first season cause it was funny but then they started announcing guest stars every week and coming up with crazy ass random story lines. shyt is a cluster fukk. These same black actors should really be thinking about owning they own shyt, so they don't have to lose they dignity and keep on auditioning for cacs damn near begging to be the sassy best friend. That's why I literally watch Being Mary Jane, just about the only television show I watch on TV. It's written, directed, produced, and the show runner are a black married couple. And they are also on BET (say what you will about them). It's a damn good show that gets over looked for Emmys but they don't care, they just keep making black content.

It's a parody show with every stereotype in it. Now, they getting the likes of rappers and washed up black actors to do hilarious scenes of ignorance. I mean, I would never imagine Chris Rock being a cannibalize Drug Lord or Ludacris as a cop :mjlol: , but that shyt is weak and only makes America more hating of us on top of us limiting our potential.

Yes, I find myself zoning out or reading a book while it's on. Lee Daniels doesn't like Tyler perry but empire looks like it could be on OWN with all the rest.
Have you checked out the blackandsexytv line up on BET? I know I've already seen most of it from YouTube
